Mandy PENDING ADOPTION's Story...
Mandy is a 5-6 year old beautiful and sweet purebred Great Pyrenees who came into rescue around mid-February. She had a torn ACL but treatment for that had to wait until after she was treated for heartworm. She is now done with rehab and is doing great. She was found living under a tree with three puppies and we believe that she has been on her own most of her life. In spite of that, she is very loving, completely ignores cats, and enjoys canine companionship. She is housetrained and prefers to sleep on a nice cushy bed. When she gets very playful she wags her head around in a big, slow happy wiggle trying to get the puppy to play. She's a breeze on leash and never pulls. Mandy shows only positive energy and interest in dogs on walks and only then if she notices them coming right up to her. Mostly she is very easy going and just wants to be with people. She gets very excited (in her own slow gentle way) to meet new people on walks and tries to get in a good lean before moving on. Mandy loves to have her head petted and would love a gentle home where head pats were plentiful. She likes grooming and is easy in the bath, being brushed, having her ears cleaned, and her toenails clipped. After having lived outside her whole life, she does not take well to a crate and would ideally like a home where she has indoor/outdoor access. If you cannot adopt Mandy, please consider donating to her veterinary expenses which have been substantial.

Please email cindybarch@gmail.com for an adoption application and more information. A securely fenced yard is required for adoption of our rescues with very few exceptions.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Adoptable Great Pyrenees are shown by appointment, usually after a completed application is received and an initial phone interview is conducted.
Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption process includes completing an adoption application, allowing a home/site visit, and if approved for adoption, signing a legally binding adoption contract at the actual time of adoption. Our adoption application can be found on our website at www.gprci.com and can be completed on line or downloaded for printing.

The application will ask for a personal reference and the name and phone number of your current and/or past veterinarian. Vet records must verify that pets receive/have received good care, both in the case of illness/ injury and preventative care (vaccinations, etc). Current pets must be up to date on preventative vet care and spayed or neutered (unless there are extenuating circumstances). We will contact you by phone upon receipt of your application but feel free to call or email with any specific questions.

A securely fenced property is required in most cases. Great Pyrenees must be in secure fencing or on leash at all times, for their own safety, as they cannot be reliably trained to a property boundary.

We request of adopters a minimum donation to GPRCI of $200 at the time of adoption to help with some of the vet care expense.

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Great Pyrenees Rescue of Central Illinois serves Great Pyrenees from the central and southern counties of Illinois.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mandy PENDING ADOPTION, a Bloomington Great Pyrenees dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Pyrenees for sale in Bloomington, or seeking a Great Pyrenees dog from a breeder in Bloomington.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bloomington already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bloomington breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Pyrenees breeders who help with Great Pyrenees rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bloomington paves the way for another one to be saved.
