**This information is current - when you email you can rest assured we will email back within 24hrs., but usually within an hour of receiving your email!**The rescue support donation is not for the 'purchase' of a dog, but rather to cover the medical and other costs of all dogs in our care. Shelter support donations are NOT NEGOTIABLE for that reason. Without ongoing support and adoption fees, our rescue WILL CEASE TO EXIST!**No phone calls, EMAIL ONLY, AlphaMom33@aol.com to get an application, thank you for understanding.**

**These dogs are in foster homes, not a shelter setting; therefore we only accept appointments for those reasonably sure they WILL adopt the dog for which they are applying.**

***On 5-23-12, we put Holly Bear to her final rest. Always frail, her health had taken a turn for the worse and she was unable to eat. Her weight dropped and we knew her life with us was drawing to a close.

If you'd like to SPONSOR senior/hospice dogs like Holly Bear, please email us to find out how - AlphaMom33@aol.com  Please do not make a donation directly to Petfinder as it won't reach A PAW UP Rescue for seniors like Holly or other dogs in our care.***

***Holly's story is below. Rest in Peace, baby girl. You earned it. You'll be in our hearts forever!***

My name is Holly. My foster mama calls me 'Holly Bear' because I remind her of a tiny bear.

This foster mama saw me sitting forlorn in a large crate where the shelter figured nobody would be able to help me. I was already on 'the list'. I know what that list means. It means the end of the road for dogs (and cats) whose names are there. And my name was there.

But the rescuer insisted they scratch my name off the list. The rescuer drove to the shelter, making a special trip, and picked me up. My nails were horribly overgrown. My mouth hurt constantly. But the rescuer looked past all that and saw what a wonderful girl I am, the wonderful girl I have been my whole life (but the last person to own me did not care about any of that and neglected me).

The rescuer has since taken me to the dog doctor and they've fixed my teeth and made my mouth quit hurting.  This foster mama has given me my very own heated bed for my tiny old joints.

I have a warm home here and 2 meals a day. I have medication to help me with some things that were making me sick, that I didn't even know was wrong. I feel so much better now, and I am happy to have been erased from 'the list'.

--------------

Holly's past consists of an uncaring owner who let her teeth and mouth get horribly infected, with teeth that are close to falling out on their own due to this neglect. She has sustained a punctured eye (her left eye) and due to the infection and neglect in that eye, lost her vision. She has mild cataracts on the right eye, which has rendered it difficult for her to see, but she CAN see. She's mostly deaf but still hears loud sounds. Her nails were over 3' long when she was picked up as a stray.  APUR sees neglect and abuse of pets almost daily but this little girl touched our hearts!

Holly is not available to adopt due to her health issues including a heart murmur (which ranges from a 3/5 to a 5/5 - the worst it can get), subsequent heart failure for which she takes enalapril and LASIX.  She has also had colitis a few times here which is difficult to treat and manage. When she was really bad and vomiting we had to give her injectible medications.
