My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Big Red here…over here, yep it’s me! Thank you Midwest BREW for coming to my rescue in Ohio; I’m now in my foster home in Northern Illinois. My foster family has two beagle mixes of their own and they all gave me a warm welcome when I arrived! I get along great with both of them even though the resident female beagle mix may try to boss me around.

They say I’m a Beagle – Coonhound mix…don’t you think I’m a handsome boy??? My foster mom does!!! I’m about 19 to 20 inches at the shoulders and weigh about 38 lbs now so does that make me a BIG BEAGLE - COONHOUND BOY??? My foster family thinks I’m on the skinny side so I’m getting beefed up by getting a little extra food when I get fed. Foster mom is sneaking in the extra food without the resident beagle mixes knowing otherwise they would be really upset. You know how much we hounds LOVE to eat!

Since I’m on the taller side I can easily see what’s on the kitchen counter when I put my paws up onto them. I found out that’s a no-no! My foster family doesn’t want my paws on their counters because they don’t belong there. Darn…everything that I saw up there looked so yummy!

I’m a real loveable guy who loves attention. I’ll snuggle with you on the couch and I’ll follow you everywhere at first until I’m comfortable letting you out of my eyesight. This might be because I’m a tiny bit on the shy side. At first, I was a little scared of my foster dad but now I love him! I also love go through the doggie toy box to play with squeaky toys and Nylabones! Now if they could only train me to pick up all of the toys that I drag out throughout the house.

My foster family thinks my previous owners never did any kind of training with me because I don’t know too many commands. They are working with me and I almost have the “sit” command down. I do know “come” when they call my name. Obedience training would be a plus with my new family and this will help us bond together too.

If my forever home has a fenced in yard; a 6 ft fence would be best for keeping me safe because I’m so tall I would jump over a 4 ft fence with no problem. A tie out would also be recommended for helping me stay inside the yard too. I’m pretty strong and tend to pull on the leash but we’re working on this to help me.

I’m crated when no one is home and at night. Sometimes I’ll even go in there on my own to take a nap. I’m usually pretty quiet in the crate and may bark when someone comes home…I’m so happy to see them.

So if you’re looking for a little on the taller side, lovable kind of boy with medium energy; please click on the green tab above to apply to adopt me. I’ll be on the lookout for you.

XOXO

Red
