Here's what the humans have to say about me:
In January 2012, a small white poodle was found wandering in Brooklyn, NY and was picked up by the local shelter. They named him Mr. Sterling. On the day Mr. Sterling was to be euthanized, BDRA stepped in and rescued him! He spent a week in Philadelphia at a temporary BDRA foster home and then came down to our home in Virginia for long term fostering.
Once Mr. Sterling arrived in Virginia, he needed to have an “L” name to go with the BDRA name game. Lloyd was chosen, but Lloyd wanted to keep his important-sounding shelter name, so his full name is Mr. Lloyd Sterling. His friends and loved ones just call him Lloyd.
Lloyd is a senior poodle with health issues not uncommon to older dogs, especially older dogs who have not received appropriate medical care through their lives. He has a grade 4 to 6 heart murmur and is now on medication; he will likely need to be on medication for the rest of his life. He has some coughing off and on each day but it is not serious. He is on a very low sodium diet to help with fluid build-up in his lungs. He has advanced cataracts but moves around our home very well although does not hear much at all anymore. He has luxating patellas and arthritis, and is on a variety of non-prescription treatments to help with the pain and to facilitate better movement. He walks around pretty well – and sometimes even prances - but cannot go up or down steps. He has some challenges with constipation and is on a medication to help keep things moving along. His coat is thin and his eyes “weep” a bit so he tends to look a little messy around his eyes – this is because the weepiness has stained his white coat.
In spite of all this, Lloyd is a true gem. He loves nothing more than to be held and to give kisses. He settles down in our laps and naps – or sleeps at our feet – and, when he is awake, he likes to follow us around the house and be where the action is. He is excited about mealtime and his appetite is good. He is housetrained and crate trained and walks on a leash. He gets along with the five other dogs in our home. Every once in a while, he might growl when someone gets too close to him when he is sleeping, and sometimes he is a bit upset when he is sound asleep and we come over to pick him up – but you have to remember he can’t hear or see very well and he is still settling in to a new home, so this will get better with time (and it already is better than it was!). And, overall, he is a gentle dog who wants nothing more than good food, a lap or soft bed, and tender loving care. Could your home be the right one for Lloyd?
