My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Savanna's Information:

February 16, 2012: We received Savanna as a owner surrender from a very caring home, whom unfortunately due to illness and financial burden, could no longer provide "M" with the attention she needed.

Savanna was born deaf and began to go blind around age 5. Before her blindness, her previous owner had taught her quite a few signs, but unfortunately, they are no longer useful. We communicate with her via touch and tapping the floor. She does pick up on the vibrations, and has done a pretty good job learning the layout of her new home.

Savanna's a very strong-willed dog who gets along with our other two dogs pretty well. She alerts us when it's time to go out by getting very excited. She'll bark, howl, jump, and more or less try to rile up the other two. At first, we had mistaken it for aggression towards our other two dogs, but soon realized that she's probably trying to gain their support for her cause. The second she wakes up in the morning, she is ready to go! She navigates down a few stairs from our front door with ease, but doesn't care to go back up them without coaxing, e.g. treats. She's getting more and more accustomed to walking around our neighborhood, and LOVES to walk on the grass at the park. She'll follow her nose without fear to the extent that you have to jog to keep up with her trotting at times.

Savanna loves sitting on the couch, and sitting on our laps even more. Her favorite hobbies include eating, sleeping, taking strolls at the park and riding in the car. She doesn't seem to be interested in toys, but likes rawhides, and other dog chewables. She's a great little dog who doesn't know that she has disabilities. She will make a welcome addition to any home.
