AXEL's Story...
Our 7 month old boy, Axel, has arrived! Woo Hoo! We have been waiting for this boy since we saw his sad photo from the kill shelter he was in weeks ago. There was something about his eyes that told us to help him and do it now! We arranged for a rescue to remove him from the shelter until we could arrange transport for him. Lucky that we did. He was not feeling well and had to go get IV fluids a few days later. They feared it was parvo but lucky for Axel, he just needed an antibiotic and he went home the very next day. He may not have made it if he was sick in that shelter. It is very important that dogs are hydrated. Axel arrived on 2-18-12. He weighs 48.6 pounds. We could not wait to greet him! We were like kids in a candy store. Upon arrival, he just knew we loved him and have been waiting! He treated us like we were his long lost family! Lots of attention, love, and kisses from him! He also traveled here with an 11 pound dog whom he was so sweet to! Axel is just a dream. He curled up in a ball and went to sleep on the 45 min drive home to the foster who is blessed to be fostering this boy. When we got here he came in ate his dinner and settled right down in his crate where he slept through the night without any issue. He is fostered with dogs and cats. Axel and Zeke, the foster's dog are best friends and have played all day. They are just adorable. Axel doesn't care about the cats or the rabbit. He knows how to sit and walks beautifully on a leash. He loves everyone he meets and we can't wait to get to know him better!
UPDATE: Words can't even begin to explain what a wonderful dog Axel is. He is loving and playful. He sleeps through the night without any problems and the only time he makes any noise while in his crate is when he has to go to the bathroom. Axel seems to be housebroken so far. He had one accident and we blame ourselves for that one. We are still getting to know his signs and he is still getting to know our home. He knows how to sit and come and he loves his toys more than anything. He plays beautifully with our other dog and he loves to snuggle with the cats. After a few minutes of playing Axel settles down and takes a nap. This big love is happiest when he is playing with his toys or snuggling up to someone in their lap. Axel has been neutered, has had his first distemper combo shot, rabie shot, heartworm test, and dewormed. Additional photos of Axel can be seen on our Facebook page by friending Sheryl's Den on Facebook. As we get to know this wonderful boy better, we will update this description. Please note, if you are interested in adopting, please complete an application for adoption.

This animal is currently fostered in a private home. Our rescue is 100% foster home based. We do not have a shelter or kennel. They are cared for by a loving family until adopted. Each pup has had their first vet exam, a shot, and de-worming, etc We make sure they have no fleas prior to going into our foster homes. They are fostered out of the shelter at least two weeks or more prior to adopting to monitor health. We take their care seriously!

Please note that the adoption appointments will be scheduled for the evening of March 2nd or the afternoon of March 3rd. The date depends upon the foster homes schedule. After your application is approved, we will contact you and arrange for you to meet on that date. Once adopted, feel free to change the dog's name. You do not have to keep the name listed in this post.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

AXEL, a West Milford Golden Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Golden Retriever for sale in West Milford, or seeking a Golden Retriever puppy from a breeder in West Milford.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in West Milford already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a West Milford breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Golden Retriever breeders who help with Golden Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in West Milford paves the way for another one to be saved.
