Anyone wanting to adopt a German Shepherd MUST have knowledge about their needs. These are very intelligent dogs that need lots of exericse, both physically and mentally.

Please discuss and consider if you are now, and will be in the foreseable future, in a financial position to provide to the dogs needs, unexpected vet bills, and common health issues specific to the breed.

Please note, any 'curtousy post' is just that, GaDaH knows nothing about that individual animal, however, will pass on your enqury to the rescue that has the pet.

Unique loving playful pup

GRETEL is an absolute beauty of a dog, she has the sweetest nature, a beautiful temperment, stunning looks, but she is somewhat fearful of humans.

GRETEL came to Give a Dog a Home - German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GaDaH) as a feral dog, and it took a lot of patience and time for her to start to gain trust. Due to the fact not many  people round to the house, GRETEL has not had the opportunity to be socialised with other humans. She is not aggressive, but will bark and run away.

This is something that with time and patience will not take long to fix, she just needs people to spend time with her, comforting her, rubbing her belly, and scratching her ears, letting her know that there are infact some good humans out here. Once GRETEL has over come this, she will be a perfect dog. She plays with the other dogs, she is well behaved, she can occupy herself when she doesn't want to play. She is such a beautiful girl and when she looks into your eyes, you can feel her look directly into your soul.

About Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GaDaH) is a small home based animal rescue, working with Animal Care Services to save predominately GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS from being euthanized.

GaDaH works on getting the dogs both physically and mentally healthy, and to provide a loving, safe home, with training whilst in the search of finding their truly deserved forever home

Come Meet Our Pets...

Please visit out website or facebook page for all current upcoming events.

GaDaH does not have a regular venue, however, we do attend most of the AAPAWS mega adoption events, and the yearly San Antonio PET EXPO's.

We enjoy bringing potential pets to your home, so that you can get more of a feel for the dog/puppy, and how it interacts with your family members.

For more information, please email

Our Adoption Process...

NO DOG, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES will be adopted out to be an OUTSIDE DOGS.

All dogs are to be part of the family and treated as such.

If you are looking for a guard dog, a protection dog, or just a dog to keep in your yard, then please reconsider the responsibilities of owning a dog.
Please go our website "" to download an application form.

Complete it and send it to "" so arrangements can be made for a meet and great.

GaDaH will bring the potential adoptable pets to your home for a meet and greet, once the application, and references have been submitted.

The adoption process includes, but is not limited to:

A meet and greet
An in-depth application - download from website
A letter of reference from a current or former vet - on their letter headed paper
Two written references from people who know you and your family well - (not from family members).
A meet and greet on neutral ground with any other dogs
A home visit
A home visit with the dog/puppy

Potential adopters are encouraged to meet potential dogs/puppies as often as they like, and no rush decisions made. If after the above, both parties would like to go forward with an adoption, then a ONE-WEEK Temporary foster contract is completed, before any adoption process can be complete.

This is to ensure the potential adopters, and as equally important the dog/puppy, and GaDaH are all happy.
