Kodiak's Story...
Kodiak is a cute boy with such a gentle, loving and easygoing personality. Despite all that his previous owners surrendered him to the pound stating that they "didn't want a dog anymore!" Truly it's their loss and our gain! Kodiak is a wonderful dog. He appears to have not been treated well in his previous home and may have been an outside dog. Initially when we rescued him he would flinch with most movements near him as if he was expecting to be hit. When you gave him attention he didn't seem to know what to do with pleasant human contact. He has been nothing but sweet and loving and with the TLC from our RESCUE volunteers Kodiak is quickly learning that humans can mean good things, like walks, treats, attention, love and toys! We are confident that his sad past will soon be just that - the past! Here is a recent encounter with Kodiak as told by one of our volunteers:

"This was our first time with Kodiak. We picked him up and took him to the park before going to Pet Club. He rode very well in the car and just slept. He did take a little coaxing to get into the backseat. Kodiak is a very sweet and loving dog. He has a very gentle personality and seems to love people and attention. At one point he sat in my husband's lap and enjoyed the attention. He was also a great walker and did well on the leash. He pulled very little on the leash. He didn't seem to show too much reaction towards other dogs. The only reaction he showed was being somewhat scared or timid. I think he still needs to gain a little more confidence. He did great with meeting the other dogs. I think he would make a great family dog."

Kodiak is a young boy that will need daily walks and/or jogs. Camping, hiking and outdoor activities are HUGE bonus points for him! The most important thing for our sweet guy is a committed family of his own that will love and care for him all the days of his life. In return Kodiak will give you a life of love and joy! He's waiting to hear from you - www.azrescue.org.

Kodiak weighed 43 pounds when we saved him from the kill list. He was surrendered by his owners, they said they didn't want a dog anymore.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Kodiak, a Phoenix Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
