Scruffy is looking for a special home and preferably with retired active seniors who can give her the love and attention that she needs and deserves. She was found abandoned at the end of a farm driveway recently. Filthy and trembling with fear. When we had her vetted, it was realized that maybe some of the trembling was related to pain. The fur around her mouth was stained a dark brown. The interior of her mouth and throat was an angry red like a caustic material had burned the tissue. The vet commented that he had never seen such a sad condition for a dog. Her teeth were in terrible shape, broken, infected and six were pulled. The exam further revealed bilateral ear infections as well. Surprisingly she was found to have been spayed. She weighs a mere 14.5 pounds, but is not thin. Her age was estimated to be 5 - 8 years old. She was sent back to the shelter with pain medication, antibiotics and ear medication. She can eat only soft food. She knows nothing of walking with a collar and a leash and must have a fenced in yard for a small dog. She is still a bit fearful and for that reason, we hope she will be adopted to a quiet home. UPDATE: Scruffy's visit to the vet shows that her condition is improving and she will continue on antibiotics for another 14 days.
