My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bucky is a ray of sunshine in our lives! He was born with no eyes, a product of irresponsible breeding. Bucky is a homozygous merle, also known as a "lethal white" Australian Shepherd. This occurs when a merle to merle breeding occurs, in hopes of getting more merle patterned, blue eyed puppies. Some of the puppies will be born blind, deaf, or both. Bucky was born with no eyes at all, but luckily he can hear, and seems to have no idea he is missing anything at all!

Someone picked him up in a highway ditch in East Texas, and thinking that his eyes had been eaten out by ants, dropped him off at a vet's office to be euthanized. As soon as we heard about Bucky, we immediately ran to his rescue, 2 hours before he would have been euthanized at the end of the work day. Thank you so much to the vet tech who let us know he was there!

He has tons of personality, loves to play and give kisses. He uses his nose and front legs like walking canes, feeling around as he learns a new place. He uses hearing and smell to get around, and learns his way around new houses quickly. He loves dogs, loves children, and loves everything else about life!

Bucky will need a house with a securely fenced yard, so he will have somewhere safe to romp and play. He will never be safe off leash in an unfenced area, so if you are looking for a ranch dog, Bucky won't be the right match for you. But for anyone who is happy to have him in a fenced area or on a leash, he will be a perfectly normal dog that loves to do all the things other dogs love to do!

His new family cannot have a swimming pool accessible to him, and he needs to be a primarily indoor dog, since his very fair skin will sunburn if he is left in the sun all day.

If you come meet Bucky, you will never forget him!
