My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brutus is quite the looker, isn't he?? This stunning dude turns 7 in spring of 2012, but somebody forgot to tell him that...he runs and zooms and even wrestles with his foster brothers. Brutus is EXCELLENT with cats, any dog who's not mean to him (he won't start trouble, but he'll stick up for himself except for with very small dogs...he tries to just avoid cranky small ones), and is outstandingly gentle with children of all ages.
Why is this hunka love still here, you ask? Well, Bru is a super sensitive guy. He gets stress-induced colitis when he's not in his comfort zone...but his "comfort zone" is really easy to reach. He simply needs a loving, gentle family, a larger canine pal who's balanced and confident (Bru relies on this to feel good about his environment) and who won't bully him, and people who can stop by halfway through a workday so he knows they're still alive. Without this "pop in", he gets anxious and the colitis kicks in. He has not done well on medication, so that's not a "subsitute option"...but we think an alternative option for folks who can't come home at lunch might be doggy daycare.
Simply put, as long as he feels safe, secure, and has a balanced family, he is 100% a normal guy. Without it, he can be a nervous mess. Families interested in Brutus will be carefully considered, so we can make sure we're not setting him up for too much stress & anxiety. Currently he lives in a pack of large and small dogs, and 2 children...and he's the most polite, easygoing dude you've ever met. (the full body shots are when Brutus first came into rescue, the others are him after gaining some weight)
