ASHTON's Story...
After observing a few questionable eyesight related behaviors...Dogworks made an appointment for Ash with a veterinary canine Opthamologist.....It has been discovered......Not only does Ash carry a recessive gene causing alopecia (permanent hairloss) but also a recessive gene causing PRA or progressive retinal atrophy. Ash is blind in one eye and will shortly be blind in the other...Nothing can be done to correct or stop the loss....SPECIAL LOVING HOME NEEDED FOR THIS YOUNG ADULT -- he is very sweet and should be allowed a good life with dog loving humans.........observing him in familiar surroundings, you'd never know he has vision deficit. Vet does not see any reason why he shouldn't live a typical life span for this breed. Sept 5 2011 --- Still in need of a loving home ......... 7/13/11 Dogworks would like to THANK EVERYONE who pitched in and donated for Ash's medical Care!! He's a survivor...October 20, 2011.....After observing a few questionable eyesight related behaviors...Dogworks made an appointment for Ash with a veterinary canine Opthamologist.....It has been discovered......Not only does Ash carry a recessive gene causing alopecia (permanent hairloss) but also a recessive gene causing PRA or progressive retinal atrophy. Sept 5 2011 --- Still in need of a loving home ......... 7/13/11 Dogworks would like to THANK EVERYONE who pitched in and donated for Ash's medical Care!! He's a survivor and a wonderful dog!! Ash completed his last injection 7/12 to rid him of heartworm. Now back in foster care to remain calm for 3-4weeks. Ash is READY for a home to call his own :) ... Please email for application if you feel Ash may be a good match for your home......This is a NICE pet!! ~~~~...... 5/12/11 - This youngster has another blow dealt him.......after increasing his weigh, caring for his now healed skin issues, intestinal coccidia and wounded tail...... Ashton was taken in for neuter surgery....Dogworks received a phone call from the vet -- Ashton is HEARTWORM POSITIVE.... What this means for this boy to survive and live a long life...He needs treated via injections to clear the heartworm disease. Once cleared --- he can resume a "Normal" Doggy Life...Will be Heartworm FREE upon adoption....><.....Ashton was rescued from a rural Ohio kill shelter. His time there was up and the pound was filling to capacity with new dogs. Dogworks was contacted and agreed to accept Ash into rescue. Pictures taken the day after leaving the dog pound. Ash is "somewhat" a special needs boy -- he's healthy (except for need to gain weight) and expected to live a normal long life -- however he has a deficiency of melanin or pigment causing alopecia or limited hair growth to his back & trunk. The fur that normally would be Blackish / Blue appears silvery gray. Patchy. His lower legs, face & eyebrows have fur, which is tan as expected for this breed. Nice temperament boy, not demanding but full of energy. Curious and friendly with other dogs & people. Cats unknown. Needs more work on manners -- at this point he's bouncy enough to knock a young child over. Ash is 2 years old, crate trained and quick to learn. 7/2011 = Now neutered, tail docked, vaccines up to date and treated for heartworm. Accepting applications, contact: DogworksOhio@aol.com Adoption fee $175.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

ASHTON, a Toledo Doberman Pinscher dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Doberman Pinscher for sale in Toledo, or seeking a Doberman Pinscher dog from a breeder in Toledo.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Toledo already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Toledo breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Doberman Pinscher breeders who help with Doberman Pinscher rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Toledo paves the way for another one to be saved.
