My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dali is a very sweet, friendly, Shih Tzu who is in need of a home. At 7 years old his family felt that they no longer had time for him and brought him to the pound; he was confused and afraid. Dali is getting used to the routine at the Centre and we are committed to finding him a home ... forever this time. More info to follow on Dali….

As you can see by the Animatch website and many websites for rescues in our area, there are many, many dogs in need of homes. Rescues are experiencing an incredible shortage of good homes for our dogs. For Animatch to continue taking in dogs, dogs MUST leave the Animatch Centre. Years ago, the average stay for an Adoptee was 3-4 weeks and although we have not studied the situation, we know for certain that this is no longer the case. Most of our Northern Dogs are still with us; such a worthwhile project but not if we can’t find homes for these dogs. A few of our puppy mill dogs are still with us; how are we to take more when we have not yet placed the dogs we have. A few of our Adoptees have special need, e.g. separation anxiety—no one applies for them. Will we no longer be able to take dogs who have problems to overcome because they are unadoptable? Animatch is not here to convince people to adopt a dog—we don’t need people who adopt on impulse and are not truly committed. It serves no purpose to send a dog out, only to have him/her returned in a few weeks. If we were prepared to let our dogs go anywhere, they could all be adopted in no time. We want commitment from the people who adopt our dogs—a home for life! So, if you have room in your heart and in hour home for a dog or have been thinking of a second dog ... now would be the time to make the move. Please help us to continue helping dog in need; it would seem that the situation will not be getting better any time soon.
