Many shelters add a description of their cats personality in this area. We prefer to have you come and make your own decision about [pet name]. Cats have entered our rescue so feral they could not be touched without welders gloves. These same cats after months of love, care, and understanding have gone home after being cradled in the arms of their adopters and gone on to be very sweet and loving members of their household.
Did you know that most cats do not have a home due to no fault of their own? It is a common myth to think that all cats up for adoption in shelters and rescues are damaged in some way. But, nothing could be less true! Cat shelters and rescues are full of lovable, active and healthy adoptable cats just waiting for someone to take them home. A majority of cats are given up when their prior owner no longer afford the financial requirements to keep them, got divorced, had a death in the family or other unexpected change in their family situation, or didn't realize how much time & attention a cat adoption deserves and needs. Even worse, the number of cat adoptions in need are compounded by a surplus of cats bred for profit: millions of adoptable pets are killed each year due to overpopulation. By taking home a cat adoption from a rescue or a shelter, not only are you saving that pet, you're either making room in the rescue so they can save another pet from a shelter, or making room at the shelter itself. As you can see, cat adoption is truly a continuous cycle of saving lives, and it's the humane thing to do! We are The Oregon Cat Project, a non-profit, no-kill rescue located in the Portland, OR, area and serving all cats regardless of zip-code or ownership status. We provide many services including adoption, rescue for FIV+ and FeLV+ cats and kittens, feral cat placement through our barn cat program, a food bank to feed the hungry and general support to all cats in need.

We have an interview process for adoptions and each is handled on a case-by-case basis. Our regular adoption fees for adult cats three and up is $40, Young adults two and under are $80 and 2013 kittens will be $120, but we often have special promotional fees.
Requirements for Adoption...
Before falling in love with one of our cats, please make sure that you are:
* At least 18 years of age and have a valid photo ID.
* Allowed to have a cat where you live. Check with
your landlord.
* Able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide the medical treatment and proper care for the cat .
* Able to provide an indoor home. (If you want an outdoor cat, let us know.)
* Okay with not declawing the cat. (If you require a declawed cat , allow us to find you one that has already been declawed. It is a cruel and painful surgery.)
Choosing the Right Cat...
Mandatory Spaying/Neutering
All of our pets are surgically altered before they go home. No animal adopted from our organization will contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.
We discourage the adoption of kittens to families with children under 6 years of age. Why? Because infant animals are very fragile and can be injured, even with the best intentions.
Remember that cats are only kittens for a few months, so the age of the cat you adopt should really depend on the level of maturity you're looking for.
Animals may not be adopted as gifts The animal must be chosen and adopted by the person/family who will be responsible for the pet.

Choosing the Right Cat...
Cats make wonderful pets. They tend to be less demanding than other pets and can easily adjust to a variety of lifestyles and living spaces.
A cat's personality, age, and appearance, as well as the kinds of pets you already have at home, are all things you should keep in mind when making your selection.
Also remember that because they are in an unfamiliar
environment, some cats who are usually quite social may be frightened or passive while at the adoption center. These are the cats that may need extra TLC to come out of their shell, but if you give them that, they will make loving, rewarding pets.

Finally, remember that you're making a commitment to love and care for your new pet for his or her lifetime—and that could mean 10, 15, even 20 years. So choose your new best friend carefully and be a responsible pet owner. In no time at all, you'll know how wonderful sharing your home with a cat can be.
