My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Josephine and her four brothers and sisters were found in the middle of the night, during a driving rain storm, sitting in the middle of a country highway. A passerby saw the soaked and frightened puppies, loaded them into his truck and brought them to the Dixie Pet Underground. We tried to locate whether the puppies had become lost from their person but were unsuccessful at finding their guardians, which leads us to believe they were abandoned.

The puppies were in good shape physically when they came to the rescue, but emotionally -- they were terrified! It was two or three days before they would easily accept handling from a human. Now they are friendly, eager-to-please, sweet and their tails wag like crazy! They are a bit shy when meeting new people, but warm up quickly. They are getting along with the other dogs and cats they have met in rescue and love to play!

The puppies will be ready to go to their forever homes on March 30. By that time they will have had three sets of puppy vaccinations, which includes vaccines for parvo, distemper, hepatitis and parainfluenze. They will also have had their kennel cough vaccine, been dewormed three times and started on heart worm prevention. It will be up to their individual adopters as to whether they are neutered/spayed before leaving rescue. We can do it here, or we can allow adopters to wait until the puppies are a little older and use our rebate system for the procedure.

PLEASE you must click the following link in order to read about our process and to apply for this dog: http://members.petfinder.org/~TN564/IntroductionD.htm

Or e-mail dixiedogsandcats@gmail.com to request an adoption application.

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog or puppy at the time of adoption. The adoption fee is $425 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area. For an additional $40, your dog or puppy can be microchipped before leaving rescue.
