My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I am Monroe. My foster mom calls me Mr. Monroe because I am such a gentleman. I am a super sweet guy and looking so forward to finding my forever home. Although, foster mom said she would keep me if she didn’t already have 3 of her own. That’s quite a testament, if I do say so myself. I am a bit on the bigger side for a beagle. I weigh 40 lbs but although my weight sounds big, I am very manageable and really a perfect size. I’ve been told that I look a bit like a lab in my facial structure or a bit basset in my stature. I am not quite sure who mom and dad were. I just know that I am one good looking young man. I am a lover, love to be petted and be your best friend. Since I am 6, I have grown out of the puppy stage. While I can get excited about things, for the most part, I am on the mellow side. If you are interested in having me part of your family, please let Midwest BREW know. I guarantee you will not be disappointed in me.

Foster mom says there are a few things about me to note:

I am very shy about having my picture taken. Not sure how I got like this but whenever she pulls out a camera I tend to walk away or turn my head. So, sorry if there aren’t great shots of me – but I promise, I am quite handsome.
I am housebroken. However, I will ‘mark’ right when I get to your house – and probably a few times. I just like everyone to know that I am here!
I get along great with other dogs. My foster siblings have all been great and we are having so much fun. I also like kids. My temporary foster had two kids (5 and 7) and I did great with them. Really, I am pretty laid back.
I am a bit bizarre about going up and down wood stairs. Carpet seems to be fine although I am now used to going up them it took me about a week to get used to going up there.
I have all the typical beagle traits: I LOVE to eat; I will sniff around the counter if something is out and smells good. However, with a firm sounding “off” from foster mom I get right off. I am able to find a weak link in your fence, if there are any, so please make sure if you have a yard for me to roam in that it’s very secure.
I don’t bark much – only when I see other dogs walking outside or squirrels taunting me.
I don’t love to be put in my crate so I might turn into dead weight before I go in, but once I am in I don’t mind or bark.
I am in great health (neutered, heartworm negative, no fleas).
