My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Miss Portia is a petite beagle girl who was rescued from a shelter in Ohio. She is about 15 pounds and full grown with light brown and white fur. Little is known about her past life other then it seems to have been challenging. She has had more than one litter of puppies and was most likely crated for long periods of time. She seems to have experienced little to no socialization and is fearful and skittish. In the time that we’ve had her, she has made progress. She is starting to become curious about her environment, loves to walk on a leash, and is housebroken. While she doesn’t seek out cuddling, she’ll stay in your lap when you put her there, and she will allow you to pet her. She even seems to inch closer in order for you to continue giving her attention. She doesn’t interact with the other dogs, but she is beginning to follow our other female around and she sleeps on a blanket with our beagle basset mix. She seems more fearful of men and tends to panic in noisy situations, but she’ll allow you to hold her and soothe her. One of the best things about her is that she is a quiet little girl. We haven’t heard her bark yet!

This little girl seems to have been through a lot and will need a family who is patient and willing to work with her. She is not aggressive, but may be intimidated by small children, so older kids would be a better fit for her. Portia’s foster dad and I have had several foster pups and Portia has been one of the easiest; she just makes us sad because she is so scared. She truly needs a loving family who will teach her about all the wonderful things in life that she has missed out on. If you have patience and time and are looking for a tiny beagle girl, then this is the sweetie for you.
