Cooper's Story...
Arrival story: Cooper came from a crowded shelter on the west side of the state.

Approximate age / weight: 4.5 years old as of June 1, 2015 and 65lbs.

Good With Kids: No. They make Cooper nervous
Good With Other Dogs: Not aggressive but needs work on social skills.
Good With Cats: Not tested
Housetrained: Yes
Crate Trained: Yes
Walks Nicely On A Leash: Pretty good using an Easy-Walk harness
Knows Basic Commands: yes
Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Medium
Special Needs: **See below

Personality: Cooper is a character! Super playful and smart and enjoys eating his meals from Kong toys. Playing tug is a favorite game. When you pet him, he groans or grunts in delight.

Cooper is house-trained, crate-trained and will even sit by or paw at the door as a signal to go outside for potty breaks. We use an Easy-Walk harness for walks. He has great focus and is treat-motivated so he learned commands easily.

Cooper has pretty good house manners and hasn't gotten into anything he shouldn't in his foster home. Cooper does well with female dogs his size best. He's not sure what to think of little dogs and has not been tested with cats. However, he does have a low prey drive for squirrels and other critters in the yard.

**Special Needs: Cooper is an anxious dog. It is a challenge for him when his routine is changed. Car rides and vet visits are extremely stressful for him despite various efforts on our part to help him adjust in those situations. Meeting new people can also be stressful, as well.

Forever home: Cooper spent many, many months in a shelter and we have worked on building his confidence. He is skittish in new situations so he needs needs a home with people knowledgeable about dog behavior and anxiety who would be willing to continue with his training. Adult-only, quiet home with a day-to-day routine is best for Cooper.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cooper, a Northville American Staffordshire Terrier/Greyhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Staffordshire Terrier/Greyhound for sale in Northville, or seeking a American Staffordshire Terrier/Greyhound dog from a breeder in Northville.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Northville already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Northville breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Staffordshire Terrier/Greyhound breeders who help with American Staffordshire Terrier/Greyhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Northville paves the way for another one to be saved.
