Zach's Story...
Hi there! Zach here! I was asked to tell you a little about myself since the nice folks at Treat Em Right Rescue are looking for just the right home for me. First thing to know is I’m a happy guy, a glass half-full sort of guy. It’s true I’ve been in some tight spots, but I always look on the bright side. Back in the day when I was a stray, times were tough and I was sick and hungry a lot. I resembled a walking skeleton. But I looked forward to seeing the folks who used to come by with food for us. I always greeted them with my special wags and snuffles and they were so nice. They liked me and petted me and everything.

One night I somehow managed to get hit by a car. That was bad! But in the morning, one of the feeders picked me up as soon as she could. She took me to the doctor. I was in the hospital for a while and they took great care of me and I got better every day. One day I didn’t hurt anymore. I was healthy and it felt so good!

These days, I love to play. My favorite game is fetch. You throw a sturdy squeaky toy as far as you can and I’ll take off like a bullet after it. Then I bring it back so you can throw it again. After a while, I’ll come and just lie by your side so you can pet me and give me belly rubs. In exchange, I will give you kisses. What a deal, huh? Everybody wins! I also like to explore a big yard on my own to see what I can see and sniff out what I can sniff. Sometimes I just like to sit outside and read the breezes with my nose.

I enjoy playing with other dogs. That is always a lot of fun. It’s nice to have fun with my own kind although I don’t get to do it very often. I recently spent time with a great pittie gal and a cute pittie puppy and we had a wonderful time. I loved them and I wish I could have some doggie friends again.

I need to have someone help me to work on my leash skills a little. I tend to pull some cause I’m so eager to see what’s next. But I’m eager to learn how to do it right and I’ll be glad for you to show me. Then we can go for walks together. Won’t that be grand?

People tell me I’m a handsome fella. Well, they do! They like the pretty colors in my fur; they like my merry golden eyes, and they get a kick out of my outsize straight up ears. They love my smiling face too. I don’t like to brag, so I’ll just let you take a look at my photos and judge for yourself. I bet you’ll agree with them.

I am not a very young pup. I’m about 5-6 years old (03/2012), but that doesn’t slow me down much. I’m full of joy and life and enthusiasm. I’m not very big, just about 50 lbs., and they say I have the well-set up conformation of the old fashioned pit bulls. They used to be a well-balanced blend of bulldog and terrier. They say I fit the bill perfectly. Interesting!

So anyway, life is pretty good these days, but I get a little lonely for people of my very own. I want to belong to somebody a lot. It would be so great to share a wonderful time with them, play together, walk together, rest together and be friends forever.

If you are interested in me and would like to meet me, please head on over to treatemright.org and fill out an application for me. The nice TERR folks will arrange a meet-up for us and I will show you what a good boy I am. Hope to see you soon! Woof!

About Our Rescue Group...
Treat ‘Em Right Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the American Pit Bull Terrier and other “bully” breeds.

All of our dogs come to us from high-kill shelters, police raids, or confiscations resulting from animal cruelty cases. We often take in dogs that have been the victims of indescribable abuse and neglect.

We provide these dogs with the medical attention they need to heal physically and the love and attention they need to heal emotionally. It is our mission to find each of our dogs a loving home, promote responsible ownership, and educate the public about the gentle, affectionate, and loyal nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Through these education and advocacy initiatives, we believe that we can restore the reputation of a breed that was once America’s favorite dog.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Zach, a Houston American Pit Bull Terrier/Basenji dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Pit Bull Terrier/Basenji for sale in Houston, or seeking a American Pit Bull Terrier/Basenji dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Pit Bull Terrier/Basenji breeders who help with American Pit Bull Terrier/Basenji rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
