My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

INITIAL BIO 03/13/2012 MEET SOPHIE! She is a 5 y/o female yorkie who was surrendered to a vet in South Florida because she had an obstruction in her esophagus - for over 5 weeks! She is currently recovering from endoscopic surgery where the vet retrieved a steak bone that had been lodged in her esoophagus for 5 weeks or longer. Sophie's former owners ignored her pain, distress, loss of appetite and rapid weight loss from 7 lbs on 02/10/2012 to 4.8 lbs on 03/11/2012! Finally when she became so weak and ill, they decided to ask the vet to euthanize her. The vet convinced them to surrender her to their office and once UYR knew about her, we authorized immediate surgery to save her life. The vet who has been treating her says she is a sweet soul and a good girl. After all of this tragedy and pain, Sophie miraculously sustained minimal damage to her esophagus and will be treated with medication in the hopes she can avoid a second procedure to repair the esophagus. Stay tuned as Sophie gets acclimated in her new foster home and we learn more about this sweet little girlie.

NOTE: Sophie's surgery cost $911.00 - without the support of yorkie and other doggie lovers all over the world, UYR would not be able to continue to take in dogs like Sophie who would have died without the necessary surgery.
