My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spanky is a middle-aged male American Staffordshire/Pitbull Terrier-mix that is approximately 6 to 7 years old. He is a large stocky boy that weighs about 60pounds. He super sweet and loving with everyone that he meets and loves to gently shower people with kisses! In addition to being wonderful with people,he also gets along well with other dogs. This poor baby boy found himself homeless at a kill shelter where he was going to be euthanized, but thankfully Lucky Dog Rescue stepped in at the last minute to save his life and bring him into our rescue. Upon arriving into rescue, we knew very little about him other than he had an obvious skin condition that could be seen in his "prison" picture from the shelter he was at.

Once removed from deathrow, he was immediately taken to our vet to receive all of his necessary vetting, when we were give a LONG list of medical conditions that he needs to be treated for!! It is painfully obvious that this poor baby suffered a long life of neglect and now has multiple health conditions that we are going to help improve for him.

Unfortunately, many of the ailments that Spanky has been diagnosed with are quite serious and they are as follows:

**First and foremost, he has been determined to be DEAF, which just by itself deems Spanky as a "special needs" dog.
**He has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart and is scheduled to see a cardiologist for further information. Until he sees the heart specialist, we can not put him under anesthesia to be neutered or for any other reason as it is too dangerous until we know more. His enlarged heart also seems to be causing him fainting spells when exerted, so he does need vigilant supervision.
**During a chest x-ray, a lytic lesion was seen on the inside of his elbow. A lytic lesion is usually a sign that bone cancer is present. He is also scheduled to see a radiologist so that they can better diagnose what is being seen on the x-ray and what (if any) treatment is recommended.
**He has entropion in both eyes. Entropion means that his eyelids fold inwards causing the eyelashes to continually rub against the cornea which is extremely painful and will require surgery to repair and allow him to no longer have pain in his eyes.
**He has a skin condition which hasn’t fully been determined what the cause is as of yet. They have eliminated mange and mites as the suspected cause, but in the meantime, he requires dips, Revolution and antibiotics to help it clear up.

Poor Spanky has led a life of severe neglect to this point and now deserves to live a pain-free life in a loving home environment…PLEASE HELP US GIVE THAT TO HIM!!!
