My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

.I'm one of the Texas Schnauzers

What does that mean? I am currently located in Texas but once I find a new home, I will come to the MD, VA, DC area for my adoption.

I’m Felicia and I’m a female, silver Miniature Schnauzer with natural ears and a docked tail. I’m about six years old and I weigh about sixteen pounds. I was cast aside and when I was found, I was in a ditch with a broken leg. Surgery was successful and I’m nearly as good as new. The only evidence of my past is during my walks, which I love, when a car comes too close or too fast, I get a little nervous. Wouldn’t you?! But I’m also a survivor and I look at the bright side of things. I’m sweet as can be and I’m much more focused on now and the future than my past. I love to snuggle and I love doing things that make you laugh…like burrowing under the couch pillows and knocking them all to the floor. Fun! Let’s do that again! I love people and really enjoy meeting new ones while we are out on our walk. I think I would have a lot of fun at a dog park with all the dogs and people there! I do get along with other dogs and I act much younger than my age. Socialization is a very good thing! At home, I’m very quiet…I just want to hang with you! I love being outside and enjoy laying in the sun. Mom laughs because, as the sun moves, I move with it! I’m crate trained and I am house trained if you keep me on a schedule. I am not on any special diet but soft food or dry food with a little water is preferred….dental care was not a priority in my past and I had to have my teeth removed. You can’t even tell when you look at me. And the fact that they’re gone doesn’t stop me from gumming cow hoofs as evidenced in my picture! All Schnauzers have their teeth removed….don’t tell me any different! Despite my past, my foster mom says I’m a real blessing and I would make a great addition to virtually any household! Well, you can’t get a better endorsement than that!! Felicia's owner must be willing to take her through a basic dog obedience class and provide proof of completion within four months of the adoption. Proof of enrollment in a dog obedience is required before/at the adoption. If you would like to be considered to adopt Felicia, you must first apply. Then please contact linda@schnauzerrescue.net. If you've already applied, please contact linda@schnauzerrescue.net to be added to the list of those being considered. To apply on-line, please go to our website http://www.schnauzerrescue.net and click on the on-line application.

Rescue Schnauzers usually weigh between 15-25 pounds, they are up to date on shots, heartworm tested and spayed or neutered prior to placement. We make reasonable efforts to evaluate the health and temperament of each dog, however we cannot make any guarantees. We are not a shelter and do not have a central facility. All dogs are kept in foster homes located throughout the area we cover.

PLEASE NOTE: We rescue schnauzers in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC and southern Pennsylvania. We can only accept applications within a reasonable driving distance of our areas of coverage. Please read the list at the top of the on-line application to see if you are in our area. For a rescue contact in other areas, please go to our website http://www.schnauzerrescue.net and click on Rescue Links. We have a need for volunteers in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Our website also features lots of great information about the rescue process, book reviews and training tips - plus the best schnauzer items for purchase! All proceeds benefit schnauzers in need. Thanks for your support!
