Scharlie's Info...

I am already spayed, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.

Scharlie's Story...
Scharlie is a loving, sensitive English Pointer girl, about 2 years old. She arrived at the shelter after her owner was arrested; he has since signed Scharlie over, so she is free to go to a terrific new home. She was yelled at - a lot - in her prior home, so is sensitive to loud voices, but does just great with calm and friendly commands - she is good at sit, when she feels like it, HA.

The most overwhelmingly obvious thing about Scharlie (pronounced "Shar-Lee") is her boundless energy. She is FAST, and seemingly tireless. Her new family will want to stock up on tennis balls and a "Chuck-It" to throw them far away, and will need to plan at least two very energetic play sessions a day to help Scharlie run off all that excess energy. She is a fetching machine, so you don't even need to jog with her - you can just throw... wait... throw... wait... for an hour at a time! Scharlie has been good with the other dogs at the shelter, and is reported to be good with cats. She LOVES to chase birds - any birds. If she sees an eagle flying by, she gets excited and runs after it... so we suspect a chicken wouldn't stand a chance with Scharlie.

Scharlie is housetrained, and is a very smart and attentive dog; she really wants to please whomever is working with her, and we think she will pick up new commands quite fast in her new home. Due to her bird-chasing, tireless long-distance running spirit, we recommend a home with a LARGE fenced yard for Scharlie, or at the very least, a home close to a big fenced off-leash dog park. If Scharlie starts chasing a bird without a fence close by, she could end up 3 miles away before she even notices you're not right there any more.

Scharlie is about 50-55 pounds (guessing for now), and her high energy means she would need to be closely supervised around toddlers, or she will end up knocking them over inadvertently. She would do fine with older children, and could be a great agility or 4-H dog.

Like all our adult pet placements, Scharlie comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.

Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!)

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your payment to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Scharlie, a Republic English Pointer dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a English Pointer for sale in Republic, or seeking a English Pointer dog from a breeder in Republic.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Republic already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Republic breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even English Pointer breeders who help with English Pointer rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Republic paves the way for another one to be saved.
