My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MALLORY IS NOT AT THE SHELTER. SHE IS CURRENTLY IN A FOSTER HOME.

Mallory came to us from Chicago Animal Control. She was in poor condition and did not appear to be very well cared for, but she hasn't let that get her down! She is a fighter and has made almost a full recovery. Since we have taken her in she was treated for a skin infection, an ear infection and she has been put on medication for a low thyroid.

Since her thyroid is under control her soft, beautifully colored coat is 99% regrown on her chest and tummy. She can be particular about her "people" and can take some time to warm up to strangers. Because of the length of time it takes her to build up trust with new people, she would do best in a quiet, adult only home. She will need a person/family who will allow her time to adjust to her new surroundings and provide patience and understanding. Once she feels comfortable with you she is a sweet, loyal companion. She isn't overly affectionate or needy. Her foster mom reports that she is housebroken and well mannered in the home, and seems to know "sit" and she comes when called. She has started to become more playful, likes gutting stuffed toys, and absolutely loves her bones. She is currently living with 5 other dogs of various shapes/sizes/ages and she get along fine with them. For the most part she keeps to herself, but recently has started trying to initiate play with her 2.5 yr old Australian Shepherd foster sister.

She needs a special forever home that will go slowly with her, pamper and spoil her, and show her what a good life a loved dog can have. She will need to continue to be on thyroid medication, but that is a medication that is very affordable. We believe she is around 9 years old and currently weighs around 45 pounds. Please consider meeting this wonderful girl and giving her a second chance at happiness.
