One look in this precious girls eyes and you too will be hooked. Penelope is a very delicate flower and still has a long way to go to be the beautiful soul that she is but in the past 10 days she has made great progress. As true with so many of the cats and dogs rescued from the kill list, Penelope has not had the best of life. You can tell that she has had no human interaction (good or bad) but still was trusting enough to let us take her into our fold and show her how good human contact can be. It took her almost 48 hours before she would eat her meals inside and still will retreat to another room and wait to eat until you are out of the area. But each day we see a little bit more of her true self start to shine. She is now the first one to the car on our morning car rides and the joy she shows by her springing and leaping around the house within minutes of waking in the morning makes our hearts sing. She is still unsure of some of the house noises and if you move to fast she will run outside but each day gets better and better. She is starting to discover how fun stuffed animals are to destuff and the joy of chewing on a nylabone. but she is still young so if not provided with enough proper dog toys she will go in search of something else ie: shoes and socks. Her new home must come supplied with plenty of stuffed animals and bones to chew on. Penelope or Nellie as we like to call her finds security with other dogs around so a home with another canine or two is a must. Her new family will need to be one with patience to help bring her to her full potential, but you will most certainly be rewarded as you watch this wonderful flower bloom.
