My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jackson loves everybody. He wags his tail if he even thinks you are looking at him or thinking about him. Jackson is incredible with other dogs. He is interested in the cats but does not appear to be aggressive towards them. His personality is very endearing and he is easy going enough to insert himself into any situation and make the best of it. Jackson is Benny's brother (previously adopted UMDR#012-0307) and is just as sweet and intelligent as his brother. Jackson is a young dog and weighs approximately 50 lbs.

Jackson is like living with the eternal optimist. He is always happy with his tail wagging so hard half his body is in constant motion with it. He is like Romeo: happy to give endless kisses to anyone willing to receive them, but if you aren’t he would just like to snuggle up very close and sleep. Jackson is a perpetual friend maker but in a very calm and relaxed way. What a great dog! He loves to be with his dog friends but also needs to know his human friends are there too. He seeks out assurance and affection regularly.

He has no behaviours that annoy other dogs. Once he has made a friend he will play, jump and run with them for good stretches of time. There isn’t a dog he doesn’t love and if they greet him with aggression he turns and leaves. Jackson would love to have a canine companion. He appears to be a little nervous and intimidated by the cats.

Jackson has not had any real training and may not have spent much time in a house. He is, for the most part, very good in the house but every once in awhile he will find something to chew on. He knows the word “no” and will stop what he is doing immediately. He is learning what behaviors are acceptable and responds very well as he is eager to please. It would be a good idea to crate him when left alone however until he can be completely trusted in the home.

He loves to go outside and run and jump with the other dogs. He has a lot of energy outside but he is calm in the house. He has had the occasional burst of energy indoors but mostly he settles down and sleeps. He sleeps on a white fleece blanket which has not accumulated much hair so he is a relatively low shedder. Jackson is quiet in the house and has never barked inside. Today he barked at someone in a neighboring yard for the first time, but he will stop any behavior when told to. He wants to be good and he likes knowing his boundaries.

Jackson has not had any formal training. He is currently learning his basic commands such as come, sit, etc. He is very food motivated which helps with obedience training and it is fun as he is so easy going and willing to be corrected. He loves being praised when he is a good boy. He is surprisingly well housetrained. He isn’t vocal about having to go so you do have to watch for the clues. Jackson is crate trained, and is easy to get into the crate with a couple of treats and a toy. He is only crated when we go out. He is perfect in the car. Quiet and lies down to sleep. Jackson is not currently leash trained and instead we use a halti for walking and he gets better every time out. Consistency with his leash training will have him heeling nicely in no time. Jackson wants to be good and he is very respectful of limits and boundaries. Once you have let him know a behavior is unacceptable a couple of times he does stop it. He is also very good at learning behaviors from the other dogs so a trained dog is a benefit for him to be around.

Jackson loves every dog he meets so he would be fine as a second friendly dog in the home. I think he would be fine with cats once he is introduced and he understands that he is to be respectful of them. He probably shouldn’t live with toddlers because of his constantly wagging tail and his body movement as a result of the wagging. He is a very kind dog and would do well with someone that is willing to continue his education with positive reinforcement and consistency. He has absolutely no aggression and does not understand why the other dogs would want to chase squirrels or bunnies in the back yard. Everybody is his best friend in the world. He is very, very sweet and it is impossible not to love him.
