Rikki is in foster in VA but if we can find a foster/adopter for him, we can have him transported ASAP. Thanks!
9/5/12 update
Rikki is a sweet and lovable little guy who was abandoned by a roadside and has been fostered with other dogs of various breeds/ages. He does best with dogs who are non-confrontational (does not do well with alpha dogs). He is approx. 1.5 years old, is dog door/house trained, walks well on and off leash, rides well in a vehicle and in spite of his long coat, sheds minimally. Rikke is a great dog who will do well with a family who can give him one to one attention and shower him with the love he has waited a long time to have all for himself.
Here is what we know about Rikki:
Rikki was found running loose in the road. We attempted to get
another group in our area who pulls from the shelter to take him, but
they are not taking in community dogs at this time. Healing Hearts is
the only group here who does community work and tries to do whatever
is needed to keep a dog from the shelter. Normally, we can accomplish
this, but at times we have animals who have no other options and who
will certainly find themselves at the shelter. Animals at our shelter
are euthanized every Thursday unless adopted out; unfortunately, NONE
of the animals are held over if room allows.
Rikki is such a sweet little guy now that Barb has been working with
him for over a week, but was very cautious at first. She had observed
him for two days running in the fields and across the road and finally
was able to get him to come into her fenced yard. Healing Hearts has
given him the rabies, worm meds, and first vaccinations. He got a
clean bill of health and our vet put him at 1 1/2 years. He is a sweet little fellow, approx. 25lbs, so a good weight for any family. He has been neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on all vaccines and ready to go, He is cat friendly and gets along well with other dogs.
