Aaron's Story...
This gorgeous hunk is Aaron. He is a sweet, laid-back guy who is looking for a forever home for himself and his girlfriend, Bea. Aaron is very bonded to Bea, a Lab mix who is also available for adoption with Aaron, and who has been by his side for years. They lived on the streets before they were rescued and have always been together. Aaron is housetrained & crate trained and likes hanging out in his crate. He sleeps on a blanket in the kitchen, next to Bea. He is an affectionate guy who loves to snuggle. His favorite activity is going for walks and he's a very good boy on the leash. He doesn't care much for car rides but if Bea goes, he happily goes along. Aaron has a shy side but does very well in public. Since there's other dogs in his foster home, they don't get any toys or treats - it helps prevent fights and jealousy. As long as he has Bea, he's fine with that. They want to grow old together as they've been through a lot together and have thrived in their foster home. If you have room in your heart & your home for a pair of sweet, easy-going dogs who are bonded & will bring happiness to your life, please visit our website to learn about our adoption process & to fill out an application for both of them. www.gatewaypets.com/adopt/adoption_policy. About Our Rescue Group...
Gateway Pet Guardians is dedicated to rescuing homeless pets in the St. Louis area, getting them great veterinary care, and finding them forever homes. We are currently a virtual shelter with all of our pets waiting for adoption in the care of volunteer foster families, however we are working toward a facility.

Gateway Pet Guardians is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations are always greatly appreciated and are used to provide veterinary care for our foster pets, some of whom have been badly injured by automobile accidents, cruelty, neglect, or life on the street.

Our Adoption Process...
Once you find an animal that you are interested in, email us and we will send your information to the foster family. You will fill out an adoption application and provide us with references. Once we have reviewed the application and contacted your references, we set up a home visit. Adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs and $195 for puppies. This fee includes shots, a spay/neuter and microchipping, as well as any other treatment the animal may have needed upon being rescued from the streets.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
PJ Hightower started feeding dogs in East St. Louis, a very impoverished neighborhood in Illinois, in 1995 on her way to her sister's house. She began going on a regular basis from there and has not missed one single day since 2001. The dogs rely on PJ, waiting for her car every morning. They come running at its sound and most come straight up to her car door as she stops. She not only feeds, but medicates, domesticates and rescues when we have a home that will take one in.

A small group of people decided to form Gateway Pet Guardians around PJ's efforts in 2004. Gateway is fast growing and excited about what the future holds for the stray dogs of the East side. Or hopefully lack there of.

When we pull a dog, we give it veterinary care and put it in a foster home where it can learn to live as a dog should live and be loved. We find that with our "virtual" shelter system, the dogs tend to have better outcomes in their forever homes. Although we are saving to build a shelter, we still plan to keep our dogs in foster homes as often as possible.

We are a small group of people devoted to solving the homeless dog population in East St. Louis through education/outreach and spay/neuter programs. We would love your involvement!
