I am already neutered, housetrained, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.
This gorgeous guy is Kulwicki. He is sweet, very silly and has the most adorable goofy ears! Kulwicki is housetrained and mostly crate trained. He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, he's submissive & loves playing with them. He's good with kids and he was good with the cat in the house then one day they weren't friends anymore so it'd be best if he went to a home that doesn't have a cat. Kulwicki is very affectionate and is all about love. He just loves to snuggle and be held. He sleeps by his foster mom's bed in his doggie bed and goes right to sleep at bedtime. His favorite toys are squeaky toys & Nylabones and he's a very happy dog when he gets peanut butter & turkey pepperoni, his two favorite treats. He is a good listener who is very attentive and pays attention to corrections. He can sit and stay and is great with 'drop it.' Kulwicki is a good boy on the leash and would be very happy to take walks everyday. His foster mom can get him to walk at an almost perfect heel and he usually automatically sits when she stops walking. He likes going on car rides and prefers to eat some treats while out riding to keep him from getting car sick. His favorite thing in the world is water, playing in the pool is his favorite activity. He'd be great for agility training as he can jump very high and has a lot of endurance. Kulwicki is a silly boy who always makes people laugh, he is very playful, goofy and quirky. He's a great dog who will bring a lot of laughter and happiness to his forever home. Rescue Group Info...
Gateway Pet Guardians is dedicated to rescuing homeless pets in the St. Louis area, getting them great veterinary care, and finding them forever homes. We are currently a virtual shelter with all of our pets waiting for adoption in the care of volunteer foster families, however we are working toward a facility.
Gateway Pet Guardians is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations are always greatly appreciated and are used to provide veterinary care for our foster pets, some of whom have been badly injured by automobile accidents, cruelty, neglect, or life on the street.
Follow us on Facebook and join our mailing list to be updated about adoption events.

Once you find an animal that you are interested in, email us and we will send your information to the foster family. You will fill out an adoption application and provide us with references. Once we have reviewed the application and contacted your references, we set up a home visit. Adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs and $195 for puppies. This fee includes shots, a spay/neuter and microchipping, as well as any other treatment the animal may have needed upon being rescued from the streets.
PJ Hightower started feeding dogs in East St. Louis, a very impoverished neighborhood in Illinois, in 1995 on her way to her sister's house. She began going on a regular basis from there and has not missed one single day since 2001. The dogs rely on PJ, waiting for her car every morning. They come running at its sound and most come straight up to her car door as she stops. She not only feeds, but medicates, domesticates and rescues when we have a home that will take one in.
A small group of people decided to form Gateway Pet Guardians around PJ's efforts in 2004. Gateway is fast growing and excited about what the future holds for the stray dogs of the East side. Or hopefully lack there of.
When we pull a dog, we give it veterinary care and put it in a foster home where it can learn to live as a dog should live and be loved. We find that with our "virtual" shelter system, the dogs tend to have better outcomes in their forever homes. Although we are saving to build a shelter, we still plan to keep our dogs in foster homes as often as possible.
We are a small group of people devoted to solving the homeless dog population in East St. Louis through education/outreach and spay/neuter programs. We would love your involvement!
