Popoki's Story...
Popoki, is a Hawaiian word for cat. The legend behind the name is, a lady from the mainland was on the beech when she saw a cat, she reached down to pet the cat and said awww you poor poor kitty. The islanders thought she said Po Po Kee. So cats became Popoki's. Cute story huh?

Well introducing our little Popoki,
She fits her name because both are just way to cute. She is just a baby but she is full of spunk! Her mom is an Egyptian Mau, dad is unknown so it is hard to say what breed she will look closest to when she is grown.

If you would like to adopt this baby you can, but she will have to stay with us until she is old enough to be vetted. Just call the numbers below for more information on Popoki and reserve your baby girl.

You can visit me 7 days a week at PetSmart in Bethlehem / Winder, Georgia.
We are over in the cat section of the store, just look for me in my pretty hammack.
You can also call Altered Feral State if you want more information on me, just ask for
Stacie (678)725-7840
or
Jill (770)876-0659
And of course all the nice people at PetSmart will be glad to help you adopt me here at the store.

At Altered Feral State, we work with feral cat colonies. All of our kittens were removed from the colonies and completely socialized when they are less than 8 weeks old. We don't offer them for adoption until they have been tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered.

Our adoption fee of $75 only covers a very small portion of our costs, but to us, it's all about finding the best home for these wonderful kitties.

About Our Shelter...
Altered Feral State is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization made up of volunteers dedicated to reducing the feral cat population through the only non-lethal method that is proven to work. That method is known as TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).

TNR is only the beginning. Just as important as spay and neuter is the removal of the kittens from the colonies while they are still young enough to be socialized. Feral kittens are removed from the colonies when the mother is just beginning to wean them. Often that means supplementing their feeding with a bottle, but usually not for more than a week or so.

All of our kittens are completely socialized and could not survive outdoors any longer. They have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, treated for worms, ear mites, all parasites, spayed, neutered and vaccinated. All of our kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption in an effort to help reduce the cat population and be part of the solution, not the problem.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Popoki, a Monroe Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Monroe, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Monroe.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Monroe already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Monroe breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Monroe paves the way for another one to be saved.
