My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ASHLEIGH
3-4 year old Female Silver Shaded Persian
Regular adoption fee: see below

This tiny, angel-faced girl was found in a field near Sacramento. Given her breed and personality, it is terribly unlikely that she “got lost” or “managed to escape” from her former home. Most likely, someone decided to give her up, for whatever reason, and thought her chances were better free than in a high-kill shelter. There is no way to know. But of course she was terrified. In fact, she bit the person who scooped her up to bring her to the shelter. The shelter was going to euthanize her, but I saw her and could tell that her biting was out of fear, not meanness. I brought her home to foster—eight months ago as I write this page.

Ashleigh has beautiful green eyes, a nice nose (not too flat), and lots of silvery fluff. She adores other kitties, likes to rub against them and cuddle. When I’m sitting on the couch, she will often get up on the couch with me and solicit affection, not sitting on my lap but luxuriating in strokes and belly rubs. On these occasions, one can touch her anywhere; she especially loves to be rubbed on the insides of her thighs! She is litter box perfect, has not had even a single accident while in foster care.

But some level of skittishness remains. I can tell she will be a little lover--she wants attention--but is still fearful. She will rub on my legs and feet but when I reach for her, she jumps out of arm’s length. She has never bitten me, or even attempted to bite or scratch me, since she arrived here last July, but she’ll hop away as one approaches her or moves to touch her. Daily grooming is important for a Persian but is a somewhat skilled maneuver: the ideal adopter will be a person who knows how to approach slowly, at a relaxed moment, and proceed gently so Ashleigh doesn’t feel as if she is being grabbed or man-handled.

Time in foster care only begins the process of recovery for an abandoned cat. It is your own love that completes the healing process.
What we want for Ashleigh is a quiet, Persian-experienced home with one or two other cats for her to love. And a laser pointer. There has to be a laser pointer. (Not really, but she adores the laser pointer and will come running, at full speed, when she hears it jangle.)

Ashleigh has been spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and tested negative for FIV, FeLV, and heartworm.
