Biggy-Shorty's Story...
Biggy-Shorty is approximately 5 years old. After his family moved away and left him behind, Biggy-Shorty took up residence with a colony of feral cats. But he roamed and roamed the area looking for a family to love once again. Biggy-Shorty loves everybody! Sadly, this was his downfall; he did not know how to run away from the "bad people" that wanted to hurt him. He is now in a foster home where he settled right in as if to say "ahhhhh." He is vocal, playful, and a purrrrfect lover boy. Biggy-Shorty is very relaxed and laid back and doesn't seem to mind most cats...or anything, really! And he will groom any cat that lets him. Such a sweetie!

All of our cats and kittens have been fostered in a home environment and are litter box trained, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and have been tested for FIV and FeLV prior to being made available for adoption.

About Our Rescue Group...
Our mission is to effect change in the way community cats are viewed and treated in the City of Edmond.

Our primary focus is to humanely and non-lethally reduce the numbers of free-roaming community cats in the City of Edmond by implementing an aggressive Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

TNR is the most effective long-term approach to reducing the feral cat population in the City of Edmond. TNR involves humanely trapping, spaying/neutering, vaccinating, marking for identification, and then returning of feral cats to the location from which they were trapped so that they may live out their lives. TNR respects feral cats' right to live, and their niche in the community, without adding to the homeless cat population. TNR stabilizes the feral cat population and, over time, reduces it while substantially reducing or eliminating nuisance behaviors.

Through the process of TNR, we regularly encounter friendly, unowned, stray cats as well as young kittens that can be socialized. All are vetted and put into adoption.

Our Adoption Process...
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued cat. Each year there are tens of thousands of cats that are made homeless in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. Sadly, there are more cats than there are suitable homes.

We take adoptions very seriously. Our adoptable cats are typically found as strays trying to survive in feral cat colonies where they were either abandoned, neglected, or abused. We are the only advocates for the cats we rescue, and feel that it is critical for our adoptable cats be placed in safe, loving, caring and permanent homes. Whether you plan to adopt an adult cat or a kitten, you are making a 10-20 year commitment to that feline. Therefore, we reserve the right to deny the adoption of a cat to anyone whom we feel will not provide humane, responsible, and lifetime care of the cat.

All of our cats and kittens have been fostered in a home environment and are litter box trained, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and have been tested for FIV and FeLV prior to being made available for adoption.

Though not a requirement in most cases, we encourage you to at least consider adopting kittens in pairs. Kittens find it especially comforting – and having a built-in playmate often helps them integrate into their new family more easily.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Biggy-Shorty, a Edmond Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Edmond, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Edmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Edmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Edmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Edmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
