About Our Rescue Group...
Animal Rescue Volunteers has been in business since 1995, started when our co-founders saw the need to have a rescue in our area due to the high volume of animals in the shelters who were and continue to be unnecessarily put to death due to pet over-population. We take in dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, regardless of illnesses or other maladies. We determine which pets are most at risk and focus on those first. We have taken many pets simply because of their illnesses or injuries because we know that they are least likely to be adopted by the general public. We spend thousands of dollars annually helping these animals, rehabilitating them so they may be placed into loving homes. We have no shelter per se, relying on the generosity of foster families who accept into their homes these wonderful animals who need a place to be a part of a family before moving on from us. We keep our pets until that appropriate placement has been made, no matter how long that takes. We have no paid staff. With the exception of minimal operating expenses, our money goes to the care and attention of our animals in our program.

We also work very hard in our community and other venues educating the public to the horrors of puppy mills, the tragedy of pet over-population, the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We do this by dissemanating literature at our adoptions, by sometimes setting up peaceful public demonstrations, and at times speaking with schools, and other community organizations.

We make ourselves available to the public to answer pet questions and referring them to various sources for help in pet-related areas.

We take any of our adoptees back for whatever reason, if problems develop because we are committed to them for the rest of their lives once they become one of ARV's pets.

We have one fund raiser a year, our annual Wag 'n Walk, which is 9/29/12, in order to help us maintain the level of quality care we give our pets.

And we do all of this because we are passionate about our mission and the plight of the homeless, abandoned animals that have fallen victim to the uncaring people who don't see these loving creatures as possessing feeling. Our volunteers are fosters, devoting their time, 24/7. Most are long-time volunteers, who have spent hours bottle feeding and medicating unweaned puppies and kittens, seen their homes turned into medical facilities with volunteers coming in to help around the clock. We are an awesome, dedicated bunch of animal lovers who want to help these pets who otherwise have no voice to be their advocates.

Stop by and meet our other pets on Saturdays from noon to 4pm in front middle of the PetSmart store in Simi Valley, except holiday weekends. Please email ahead to make sure a particular pet will be at adoptions.

Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption fees; Puppies (under 1 year) $300; 1 to 7 years $250; 8 and over $200; cats $130;

We have an application, an interview process, home visits prior to adoption, and follow-up post adoption, plus a contract. Adopters must maintain our group I.D. tags plus a tag with their own identifying information on their pets at all times, including cats. No cats are adopted to homes where they are permitted outside. Our adopters receive a "go-home folder" containing all the pet's medical information as we know it, helpful tips on training, a DVD for pet training/care, a list of vets we use, information about us, and a gift of Missing Link supplement that we like our pets to be fed.
