"Bernese" is a 45# tri-colored female border collie or australian shepherd mix. She is probably around 6 years old and is spayed. She is up to date on shots (minus rabies). She is heartworm negative (as tested by a direct smear, not a snap test) and has been started on heartworm prevention. She has also been given a comfortis so she should remain flea-free for at least the next month. She has a wonderful personality - very loving, very sweet, and a total snuggle bunny. She would love nothing better than to curl up on the couch with you all day. She is not cat aggressive, but needs a home with no other dogs. She is not food aggressive, nor is she cage aggressive. She is house trained. She knows some basic commands. She would make a wonderful only dog for someone! She is special needs: she has allergies or some sort of skin issue. I haven't had her long enough to test out whether it is to the food or whether is was lasting itchiness from a flea allergy, but she has been given a 3-week steroid shot to relieve her itching and has been a lot happier since. Do you have room in your heart and home for sweet Bernese?

There is a screening process to adopt me and my adoption fee is a suggested donation to NINNA’S ROAD TO RESCUE, a 501c3 non-profit organization, of $30.00 for their assistance in re-homing me and to help assure I go to a good home. Also, be sure to keep me on a monthly heartworm preventive. Dogs get heartworms from mosquitoes and the only way to protect me is with a monthly preventive that you get from your vet!

If you need to re-home a pet and want your pet posted here and adoptapet.com, e-mail roadtorescue@bellsouth.net for more information on what we need to post your animal.

Please also consider donating to Ninna’s Road to Rescue. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible. All donations go towards our small dog breed facility and towards the continuance of our Adoption Assistance Program to assist pet owners in re-homing their pets. Please visit www.RoadtoRescueLA.org for donation information.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bernese, a Haughton Border Collie/Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd for sale in Haughton, or seeking a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Haughton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Haughton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Haughton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie/Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Border Collie/Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Haughton paves the way for another one to be saved.
