My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

June 3, 2012
Hi everyone – this is Reba, a beautiful mahogany BC mix who’s around a year old. She came to MBCR two months ago through no fault of her own – her owner just didn’t want her. She’s come a long way in just two short months – she was very thin, with worms and a UTI and lots of mats. She hadn’t been trained or even house-broken when she came to us but now she’s almost accident-free, and knows SIT, STAY (well…kind of LOL), DOWN, OFF, “go potty”, “bring it” and “drop it”. Reba is very affectionate and loves her people but can be wary of strangers.

Reba LOVES toys – ANY toys. She plays with them alone or with us. We’re working on having her play with our resident BC, Bridjett – tugging games and taking turns chasing a toy we toss. Tennis balls are a huge favorite in the yard and she’ll bring it back time and again for you to toss over and over and…you get the idea LOL. Reba and our Bridjett will chase each other around the deck in our back yard – Reba’s already learned the “short-cut” of crossing OVER the deck – smart girly! Inside, plush toys are taking a beating. Reba chews and tosses and has us toss and flips on her back to chew some more, tail wagging happily with little happy growly sounds coming from her. And oh, is she a “talker” when she’s playing and happy or wanting your attention!

Although she’s a little over a year old, due to her earlier circumstances, we figure she’s about 5 months old emotionally and developmentally. She’s learning doggy and people appropriate behavior. She’s very enthusiastic about EVERYTHING – which can overwhelm our resident dogs at times, so she’s learning to tone it down a little. She can be mouthy but not aggressively so – she may make contact with skin but has never bitten down. A well-timed OW has helped Reba learn what she can and can’t do in that regard. Reba is learning how to be in a pack. She knows our old cranky dog is “above” her and pretty much leaves him alone. She tries to dominate Bridjett but Bri just ignores the attempts.

We figure Reba would do best in a home without children – or children over 12 – because her “happy growly noise” and her mouthiness would probably scare younger children. We also figure Reba would be best as an only dog or in a home with very tolerant dogs. She loves to snuggle – especially on her foster dad’s lap – but she also love to go – and go – and keep on going! Reba might like to perform agility or flyball or disc.
