Skittles's Story...
Skittles (2.02kg) was one of approximately 18 rabbits surrendered to a shelter that was unable to accommodate them. On 5 June 2012, 6 of these rabbits came to New Moon. Skittles was neutered on 8 June 2012 and is available for adoption.

Skittles is an active, adventurous and energetic little boy who is so much fun to have around. He is playful, loves to interact with his people and is not afraid to tell you when he would like something! Gold stars go to Skittles for his exceptional litter habits!! He will even go back to his cage during play time if he feels nature calling.

Skittles has attended events with New Moon, including several adoption events and has always been known as quite affectionate and quite a cuddle bug spending most of his time snuggling or sitting on a lap soaking up the attention and pets.

Skittles is full of energy and would prefer a free range or partially free range home to call his own. He loves to chew so lots of toys and apple branches to chew on will help keep him from sampling things he shouldn’t. Skittles is not picky as to what he chews on so finding a good variety of things that he enjoys is not difficult. He loves toys and loves to adventure when he is out running and is good living in a house with dogs and cats.

It can take him a bit to warm up to his new family and surroundings but once he has he will be your best friend for life!!

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
New Moon Rabbit Rescue was formed in September 2006 with one main goal: to provide unwanted, abandoned, neglected, or abused domestic rabbits with a second chance at human love and appropriate care.

We are a "no-kill" organization dedicated to providing care for rescued domestic rabbits. All rabbits remain in foster homes until such time as they are adopted to loving, caring homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...
All of New Moon's rabbits are in foster care at this time. If you are interested in meeting a particular rabbit you must fill out an adoption application. Upon approval a meeting with the foster home will be arranged.
Our Adoption Process...
All rabbits that come into the care of New Moon Rabbit Rescue are spayed or neutered, health checked and if necessary, fully rehabilitated before adoption. Potential adopters are thoroughly screened to ensure that the rabbits will be entering safe and happy environments.

Every potential adopter must fill out an application, either online or by printing and filling out the PDF document. It can be faxed to 613-489-0487. You will receive a phone call within a few days to discuss your application. Please review our adoption contract, which you will required to sign upon picking up your new rabbit. Please note that all adopters must be approved before visiting the rabbits.

Our adoption policies state that we do not adopt to children, however we do adopt to families with children in which children may aid parents in caring for the rabbit. New Moon rabbits are adopted out as house pets only and are not to be housed outdoors. There will be NO exceptions to either of these strict policies.

Our adoption fees are $85 for a single rabbit and $130 for an already bonded pair. All adoption fees are non-refundable, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the rabbits of New Moon. We are wiling to adopt outside of our area, but you must be willing to pick up your new friend.

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We serve Ottawa, Ontario and the surrounding areas of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. We have on occasion adopted as far away as the US. All adopters must be willing to pick up their new friend(s)

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Skittles, a North Gower Mini Rex was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Mini Rex for sale in North Gower, or seeking a Mini Rex from a breeder in North Gower.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in North Gower already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a North Gower breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Mini Rex breeders who help with Mini Rex rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in North Gower paves the way for another one to be saved.
