Meet Trixie!

Update from foster mom (11/18/12):

Trixie is such an amazing girl. She is an absolute pleasure to foster. She loves to play ball, Frisbee and loves, loves, loves to chase the laser pointer. She is a big snuggler and is content to relax wherever you are.

Trixie is also very smart and learns very quickly. She knows basic obedience and walks well on a leash. She also enjoys car rides and will hop in and lay down nicely in the backseat. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly to new people.

She is crate trained and does well when left out of her crate in the house. She would do best as an only pet or with another mellow dog.

Prior Bio:

Trixie is a very lovable and sweet 40 pound female terrier mix who is approx. 2 years of age She was an owner surrender in TN from a family who had her - she came home one day with 6 puppies on board....the puppies are in New England as well awaiting adoption and we want Mom to find a great home as well.

Trixie is about 2 years old. Her first home was with a family with children, her first foster home in TN was with other dogs and a child (see photo) who adored her. She's a bit too interested in cats for our (or the cat's) comfort level.

She can easily play or snuggle getting the occasional belly rub or two while she watches TV. Loves playing ball, her playtime activity [see video]

I am very good in the house and am housetrained!

I have been spayed, tested heartworm negative (I am on preventive), up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

Even though Trixie is a very sweet girl according to her foster mom, we think she would be best in a home as the only dog. If she is not the only dog, the other dog needs to be super mellow and submissive.

If you are looking for a dog for the family, I would make a great addition.

Paws New England as recently joined VCA Animal Hospitals in a program providing new adopters with a certificate for an initial health exam at a VCA Hospital and treatment of certain conditions free of charges for the first 5 days. This is a great program and PAWS is thrilled to be participating in for our adopter

QUARANTINE (RI & MASSACHUSETTS)

Due to new regulations put forth, as of 6/1/2012, all dogs traveling from TN, MO, or GA [or other non-contiguous states] with a final home in Rhode Island or Massachusetts will be quarantined for a period of 5 days at the Westerly RI Animal Shelter; dogs will arrive on Saturday, spend 5 days in quarantine, be examined by veterinarian, and released to adopters on the following Friday/Saturday. A health certificate fee of $25.00 will be required at the time of dog pickup payable to the Westerly RI Shelter.

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (general health exam, vaccinations, heartworm testing/treatment when necessary)

PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives.

We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" ..... The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support ALL rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in discounted vet care, and many people will want to adopt it; an older dog with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt him/her. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others.

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.

Come Meet Our Pets...
All of our dogs are located either in foster homes in New England or Tennessee/Missouri. Please email our volunteers to ask about the specific pet that you are interested in.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Trixie (LOCAL), a Barrington Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)/American Pit Bull Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)/American Pit Bull Terrier for sale in Barrington, or seeking a Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)/American Pit Bull Terrier dog from a breeder in Barrington.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Barrington already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Barrington breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)/American Pit Bull Terrier breeders who help with Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium)/American Pit Bull Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Barrington paves the way for another one to be saved.
