My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hunter is a 3.5 year old Golden Retriever. Hunter had a difficult start in life. He was used as a stud dog for two separate breeders of Golden Retrievers. Two years ago he was rescued by his current owner. She had him neutered, and then began to teach him all the things that he needed to be a good canine citizen. Hunter's existence as a stud dog was a life of confinement and isolation chained inside a 10' x 10' pen. Hunter is house trained, crate trained, walks and heels on and off lead, retrieves tennis ball, ( still working on releasing the ball ), and he sits on command. One of the men who had him as a stud dog got upset with Hunter and broke a flashlight on his head. The result of that incident is that Hunter is head shy and likes women better. His current owner believes that it is for this reason, that he should not be adopted into a home with children under 15. The example she used was if a small child is carrying a bat, Hunter will feel threatened and stay away from the child. He has never shown any aggression towards people. Hunter is being put up for adoption because he has shown some aggression towards the other rescue animals in the household. His owner has tried all types of training without success. Hunter is fine with the rescue horses. His owner is convinced that he should be an only child. His owner loves him and wants what is best for Hunter and all of the rescue animals in her care. Hunter currently lives with a wife and a husband and their 16 year old daughter. Hunter would do best in a home with an owner that is willing to work to gain his trust and looking for a true life long companion. "Hunter deserves it!"

Hunter will be transported to the NE via Alpha Dog Transport upon adoption. They charge $125 for their services. They will also hand off all vet records at that time.
