My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

3/22/13 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!

ADOPTION FEE: $600

Fostered in North Carolina

Age: 1 year

Weight: 4.5 lbs.

3/20/13 – Riley went in last week for a follow-up after decreasing his diuretic. He is doing fabulous and his doctor decided to take him off it completely. We will check again in a couple of weeks just to make sure he is good without it. His doctor was so happy with how great Riley looks and how great he is doing. Now all he is taking is his seizure medications and he has been seizure free for quite some time now. He absolutely loves people and animals. When you come home he makes it very hard for you to walk because he is rolling around at your feet wanting attention and love. You can’t help but love the little guy!

1/6/13 - Riley is doing fantastic! He went to see his specialist last week and his bloodwork looked fabulous and he did not have any fluid built up in his tummy. We are decreasing his diuretic and will recheck in two weeks. We hope to be able to take him off of it completely. He is still on his seizure medication but has not had a seizure for quite some time. He is a spunky and playful little guy that tries his hardest to get the other pups to play with him. He loves to snuggle with you in bed when he is ready to sleep and not play.
11/14/12 – Riley is doing well and being his playful little self! He is still on a diuretic to keep the fluid from building up in his stomach and is on two different seizure medications. I think he has only had one seizure since going on the two medications. He will be going back in soon to have his blood checked to make sure everything is functioning properly right now. He is a playful little guy that enjoys some play time with the other pups, but also enjoys his nap time. Anytime you come home or leave the room and come back, you will find Riley on his back wiggling back and forth at your feet trying to get your attention! He is a funny little guy with lots of personality and a zest for life!

PLEASE HELP: RILEY HAS A LIVER SHUNT
8/14/12 - Riley recently had a bit of a set back medically. Last week he had a distended belly and it turned out his liver was having trouble processing stuff now that the shunt has been closed and therefore cause fluid to back up. He was put in a diuretic, which has helped a lot and his belly is back to normal. Then within the past few days he started having seizures. This happens in very rare cases, but is possible. He has been put on seizure medication to try and keep the seizures at bay. It is believed this could be caused from the liver, but if they continue he will need to see the neurologist to make sure there isn't something more going on. Riley is still a very happy and playful little pup!

7/11/12 – Riley had his liver shunt surgery for a very large portosystemic shunt and was neutered on 7/3 and is doing great! He has healed wonderfully and is getting back to his old self. He still needs to have his teeth cleaned and in 3 months will need to have another bile acids test. If in 3 months the results of the bile acids test show his liver is functioning normally he will no longer need a specialized diet or medicine. He is a very energetic little man that loves to play with people and other pups.

7/1/12 - Hello there!! I'm Riley. Am I cute? This is where you shake your head YES. LOL. I am a wonderful puppy with a big heart and even bigger sense of curiosity. I came to YHR from a very loving family. I know they miss me and I miss them too, and we try to stay in contact on the phone from time to time. They could not afford my upcoming medical treatment so in my best interest they contacted YHR in hopes that YHR can give me the care I need. I read up on my diagnosis (Doggie Howser eat your heart out) and I have a liver shunt. If I don't get it fixed soon it could affect my longevity and quality of life. YHR has worked diligently to setup appointments with the dogtors and I am currently scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, July 3rd. Please keep me in your prayers and I'll be sure to update you on my well-being here on this site. Check back often.

Now that we got my medical needs squared away let me tell you about my personality. I am the Energizer Yorkie. I love to look at you from across the room and when you look away for a second I love to be tangled up in your feet the next. I am quick because of my puppy power. And I am curious too. I love to play with toys and other furkids. I am doing very well on potty training because unlike some of these other Yorkies (I won't name names), I am pretty darn smart. I'm one of those Yorkies that wherever I go I just light up the room. I still have my puppy teeth and they are kinda sharp. I like to chew on bones and the pants of my foster parents while they are walking around the house. Somebody has to keep them on their toes. In short, I love life and I am looking forward to a long one with a wonderful family. I just need love and I will give lots in return. A TV would be nice too. That way I can watch my Doggie Howser tapes. And of course, my drum. I could keep going and going and going....
