My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Prairie is not an actual Australian Shepherd, she is actually an Indian Pariah Dog, which is similar to the Australian Cattle Dog in temperament.

Prairie is an intelligent, affectionate and endearing pup. She has been raised with her mother and siblings by a caring individual who has put a lot of time, energy and commitment to finding these girls a forever family. Prairie is now 8 months old, in excellent health with all medical work up to date including vaccinations and is spayed. She is a mid-sized dog weighing approximately 25 – 30 lbs. She is friendly with everyone and would be fine with cats and would love to have another dog friend in the home.

Prairie and her sister were born on dirt in a school compound in India. Their mom was a street dog who had to sift through garbage every day in search of food, and had to endure other dogs attacking her as she looked for food. One day, she saw a lady who took her fancy, and she started following her around. The mom was all skin and bones, with injuries, itchy skin, missing hair, and very pregnant. The kind lady looked after her and the pups when they were born and tried very hard to find them forever homes in India but to no avail. When it was time for the woman to return to Canada she just couldn’t leave this little family to starve or worse on the streets.

These pups have been taken very good care of and are now healthy, happy and ready to find their new homes.

Prairie is very playful, gentle, and friendly. She would make a great running partner and would enjoy playing in the backyard chasing a ball and just having fun. She is active outdoors but very calm and quiet indoors. She loves hugs and affection. She does not like crates, and any kind of force used to train her will scare her all over again. Prairie needs a fenced yard to play in and would do best with children over 10. Once adopted, Prairie would love the opportunity to visit with her mom and siblings as they are so close.

If you would like to be considered for adoption of Prairie we ask that you please do your research on Pariah Dogs. The following is some basic information about the breed.

Information on Pariah Dogs:

Pariah Dogs have an adaptable, friendly nature, high intelligence and trainability and overall good health, as they have evolved for survival. Their high territorial instinct makes them naturally good watchdogs. Some individuals tend to be more independent than others. They are extraordinarily loyal and devoted to their family.

If vaccinated, cared for properly and fed a well-balanced diet, Pariah Dogs will rarely need to see a vet. They are not predisposed to develop any particular ailments.
