My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sierra is a gorgeous 2 year-old Black Golden. Her previous owners claimed her mother was a Golden Retriever and her father was a Black Lab, hence the name "Black Golden." What Sierra truly is is a Black Beauty type of a dog! She is an owner surrender who would have never been given up except for a painful situation the family has found itself in. They asked us to help find her another loving home and that's what we're set on doing!

Sierra is good with other dogs, children and even kitties! Her new foster home has 3 cats (2 of which are elderly) and Sierra is wonderful with all of them. She loves to play with her foster siblings, but what she loves most is to be cuddled and petted like there's no tomorrow. Kisses are her specialty and she's fine with sharing kisses with everyone and everything in the house, including her foster siblings.

Sierra is completely house trained. She is also fully crate-trained (she came to us that way from her previous home), but she is also fine with free reign. Because this is something new for her, her foster parents are slowly lengthening the time she gets to stay out of the crate when they are gone from home. She sleeps the whole night and loves to sleep on her doggy bed along with her canine and feline siblings in their owners' bedroom.

Sierra loves to go on walks, but she needs a harness to remind her not to pull too hard. Food seems to be one of Sierra's favorites, but this has caused her to lose some of her girly figure. She used to free feed at her other home, but now she's fed on schedule and the portions have been cut back greatly. With all the extra exercise and less eating, she should be back at a normal weight in no time at all!

Sierra is also great in the car - she just lays down and sleeps until she gets to her final destination. She knows some commands such as "sit", "down", "drop it", but she's still learning "four on the floor." Sierra does get very excited when her foster parents come home and she jumps on them. Since she's no lightweight, and until she learns her manners, she would do best in a home with older, more dog-savvy children.

Sierra will just melt you with her deep brown eyes. She's looking for a home that is willing to be patient and teach her proper manners, but in return she will give you all the love and attention you could possibly want.

If you're interested in meeting this big, beautiful girl, please contact our staff and Sierra will greet you with lots of tail wags and sloppy kisses.
