My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sophie
3 year old Dilute Tortie Persian
Regular adoption fee: see below

This quiet, gentle soul has had a rough life and is ready to finally be loved and cherished. As a tiny little kitten, she was shipped from Arizona to California. She went to an elderly lady who was not able to care for her properly, neglected her quite a bit and she ended up with a large solid mat on her that resembled a full body armor over an inch thick. How uncomfortable that must have been for her and we don't know how long she was like this. Prior to her coming to us, someone attempted to cut her mats off without the proper tools and horrifically cut part of her right ear off. Shaving her free from this mat took the rescue 3 hours with Sophie under heavy sedation (see photo of her mat).

She came to us with an incredible sadness in her eyes- she had not felt her body be brushed, scratched or even petted in years. She immediately hid under the bed- distrusting everyone. Once her mat shell came off, she literally came out of her shell and became an inquisitive and very loyal kitty. She likes to follow her foster mom around- especially in the kitchen and the bathroom. She goes crazy for her DaBird toy and will do anything for her favorite treat. She is an independent cat who does fine with other cats and small non-threatening dogs though she does not usually bond with them. She develops a strong bond with one person and relies on them for comfort. She needs someone with lots of patience and compassion in order to continue to grow and gain more confidence and trust. Her foster mom thinks she has come a long way since arriving at her house and will continue to improve. She would not do well in a home with small children, they would be too active and loud for her. She probably wouldn't mind older children that were cat experienced. She will obviously need a home that will provide regular grooming- she is currently sporting a lion cut and loving it!

Sophie is litter box perfect. She will be microchipped, altered, current on her shots and ready for her forever home! She is living in Sacramento with her foster, Casey. If you would like to meet Sophie, contact Casey at ooocasey@yahoo.com
