Marmaduke's Story...
Marmaduke a/k/a Marm. Yes, my foster parents thought they should change my name, but I know it and I actually respond to Marm, yes not very masculine, but my name has stuck.

Marm is an an 16 month old Shepherd/Great Dane mix (educated guess). Marm is a very outgoing, loving boy at home who craves attention from his people and gets along great with his canine companions. He is a typical young dog who needs mental stimulation and exercise. Marm needs an experienced, confident human leader, without such, he takes on a false sense of confidence.

Marm needs to be introduced to new people slowly as he is insecure. Once he feels comfortable he is very friendly. We are currently working on positive socialization. To quote Victoria Stilwell "Insecure dogs need their owners to show them that they are being taken care of; that they do not have to make any decisions involving new people or dogs. Obedience training can be very important, but not as important as the attitude emanating from the owner, who should act as if he or she/he is running the entire world in a quiet, competent fashion.............. So much better to act as if the world is a benign place, and they are just moving through it."

Marm's forever family must include another dog, who is well balanced, as he gains confidence from his canine friends. Marm lived and lives with young children and his drawn to them. Marm's forever home can be with children 12 or older. We are looking for a home for Marmwhere he will continue to have positive experiences with both humans and other dogs with a family. As it is with the majority of our dogs, Marm will be required to attend appropriate canine classes for obedience and socialization.
