My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella the Beautiful is under a year old, is a medium size pup weighing 21 pounds and is a ball of puppy energy. She would make a wonderful addition to any loving and caring family who are willing and able to keep up with her boundless energy.

Bella is a sweet, loving, happy and very energetic young lady. She has the most beautiful brown eyes that just make your heart melt when looking into them as she showers you with her puppy kisses.

She is very sociable and friendly to everyone she meets (even the mailman) and is always happy to meet new people. She is friendly with children of all ages and her tail wags constantly. Bella has not shown any signs of aggression whatsoever. She is always happy and does not growl, snap or snarl at anyone. I am able to take away her toys and food dish without any negative reaction. Bella is not shy at all and greets everyone she meets with her tail wagging. She is also is good with other dogs and cats.

Bella loves to give affection as well as receiving it and will let you pet her for as long as you want to. She loves being outdoors running around in the fenced in back yard and going for long walks in the neighbourhood. She loves to play with her toys. She would enjoy a family with children that would like to play with her and trips to the dog park to run and romp with other doggie friends.
When I leave the house Bella will start to whine and then bark for a few minutes but settles down shortly after. (I have stayed outside the front door and listened to see how long she barks for and it is not for more than a few minutes). This is the only time she ever barks. Bella is crated during the day while I am at work but I have left her for short periods of time loose in the house without being crated and upon my return there has been no indication of any destructive behaviour. Bella has not had any accidents in the house while I have been gone. I think that once Bella finds her forever home and is comfortable in her new environment with her new family, she may not need to be crated at all.

Bella will come when called regardless of what she is doing. All I need to say is “Bella come” and she will run right to me whether she is outside in the yard or in the house. She is learning to sit for treats and I am teaching her to sit before crossing the street when we are on our walks. Sometimes she will sit on her own, but occasionally she needs to be reminded with a slight push down on her behind. She has learned that the word “off” means to stay off the furniture. Bella has a tendency to jump up on people because she just gets so excited to greet people so she is slowly learning the word “down” and is getting better at not jumping up. We are still working on “stay”. She is not yet leash trained but with our twice daily walks and a lot of patience, Bella is getting much better on the leash. Further training or taking Bella to obedience classes would be ideal.

Bella is a very curious pup and like a little child does, she tends to want to pick up and chew or eat anything she sees when out in the yard like leaves, bugs, branches, etc. She does not yet know the meaning of “drop it” but does allow me to take whatever she has in her mouth without any problems. Again, with more training, she should have no problem learning this command.
Bella is fully house trained and has not had a single accident since coming into my home. She will let me know when she needs to go out by whining a bit and running to the back door. If I do not follow right away, she will come back to me and then run back to the door.

Bella is well behaved when in the house. She does not counter surf nor does she try to steal food from the kitchen or from my dinner plate. She does not really seem to have any interest in “people” food and is quite content with her kibble and treats. Bella does not beg for food when I am eating, instead she will lie down nearby chewing on her toys or napping. Bella does not chew anything other than her toys and treats that I give her. When Bella is out in the backyard, she is happy to run around or bask in the sunshine and does not try to get out of the yard or jump the fence.

Overall Bella looks to be a healthy dog other than possibly being a bit underweight. She has beautiful bright white teeth and her fur is soft and in good condition. She does shed minimally.

I can honestly say that beautiful Bella is the sweetest, friendliest, happiest and most loving dog I have ever met and this sweet little lady so deserves to be a part of a loving family who will keep her healthy, safe and happy for the rest of her life and who are willing to continue with her training. It is impossible not to smile when this cutie greets you at the door with her tail wagging, just so excited that you are home! Being such a friendly dog, Bella would do well with any family with or without children and/or other pets. As I stated previously, Bella is a very high energy dog so would be best suited for an active person or family perhaps with older children who can take her for long walks or runs at a dog park. Bella loves to be outdoors so having a home with a fenced in backyard would definitely be a plus.

If you would like to make Bella a wonderful addition to your family, please submit an application to http://www.uglymutts.com found under "The Dogs" tab for consideration.
