Fleet's Story...
Fleet is a 9-month-old border collie. Fleet is the most affectionate dog I've ever known. He loves to be held in laps, stroked, brushed, hugged, and to be near your side. He is most happy when he is with "his people", but also loves to play and run with the other dogs. He is very energetic, playful, curious, trusting, obedient, and good-tempered. He is good with kids and would make a great family dog. Fleet is curious about new things (including cats) but is a sensible dog and does not go charging into things. He is crate-trained and will go in the crate on his own to rest. When in the house, he settles down and will lay by your feet quietly. Like most border collies, he is smart and biddable, and should be easy to train for various activities.

Some early training issues include: In his former home he obviously must have been allowed to sleep on the kid's beds because he jumps right up and snuggles up. He has shown that he can climb at least 4 vertical feet to escape a pen and a stall when he wanted to get back to his "people pack". When he has "escaped", he has made a bee-line for the house door because he doesn't want to run away... he wants to be with people. He may outgrow this tendency, or may need more training to discourage his "escapes". He's almost but not quite past the puppy chewing stage yet, so his new person may have to hide shoes and keep an eye out for a little while longer, and provide some good chew toys for him.

Fleet has a strong streak of "obsessiveness" when it comes to chasing moving objects, including lunging at cars when on leash, racing up and down the fence line fixated on the neighbors' lawn mower, and chasing deer. It is important that his new guardian discourage these obsessive behaviors by giving Fleet a lot of exercise, mental stimulation, play time, and "work" time. He is a border collie that needs a "job" to do. He would work out best in a home in which he has an activity such as herding, agility, running partner, flyball, or other work/play that involves physical and mental exercise. Fleet is a very social dog and does not like to be all alone. He needs a home with at least one other still-active dog, both to have company when the people are away, and to play with. Fleet is available for adoption now.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Fleet, a Oliver Springs Border Collie dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Border Collie for sale in Oliver Springs, or seeking a Border Collie dog from a breeder in Oliver Springs.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Oliver Springs already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Oliver Springs breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie breeders who help with Border Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Oliver Springs paves the way for another one to be saved.
