My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Martie is a dear, sweet little girl 2 years of age. She loves to cuddle and soaks up all the affection she can get. She has a beautiful little face, soft eyes and the cutest little ears. She is a friendly little dog who loves everyone and would fit easily into any family situation. She weighs just 20 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Martie is gentle and very quiet in the house, rarely barks even when the doorbell rings. Since staying with us, we have found that she is quick to learn new things and is eager to please and will ask to go out by sitting in front of the patio doors and patiently wait for someone to let her out. Sometimes she will go to the crate on her own for a little quiet time.

Athough she doesn’t play with toys, she is crazy about chasing the ever elusive red laser beam my husband shines on the floor which she will chase endlessly. When he turns the light off she still looks for the beam wondering where it disappeared, searching to find it and play again. I think she would do well learning agility training as running seems to interest her most.

She picked out a lawn chair to sit in so she can survey her little kingdom while spending time with my husband and of course, checking on anyone walking along the walkway beside our house; then quickly runs, wagging her tail and squeezing her face between the cracks of the boards as if to say, look at me, I’m here!

It’s a pleasure to take her out on walk. She is very aware of her surroundings taking note of who is barking in the neighbourhood or turning her attention to a rustling sound in the tall grass that runs along the pathway her little feet prancing all the while. She would do well with a family of children past toddler age or with a couple as she is content to just relax.

She loves to meet new people eagerly greeting them with tail wagging and is very good with the children who want to meet her on our walkabouts. Martie would be good at dog sports such as agility training as she quick and spry. We do not have any pets at the present time, however, on our outings she readily greets other dogs letting them say hello and shyly returning the gesture. We have not taken Martie to visit other dogs in their homes, but I think she would be respectful of their home during the visit. We have not seen any type of separation anxiety at all, never barks or whines when we leave the house. She has not been destructive of our belongings and has learned getting on the furniture is a no, no. She is happy just to be with someone no matter what they are doing. I would say Martie has a moderate level of energy. Her shedding level is low to moderate. She is a sensitive dog who is quite quiet in the house .

Martie has a beautiful soft shiny coat. Martie knows sit (still needs to practice), down, wait (when we are heading out the door) and come. Martie is fully house trained and has learned to sit at the patio door to ask to go out. We usually leave her in the crate for approx. 4 hrs. Monday to Friday. She does not whine or bark. Martie enjoys her rides in the car and will settle down quite well just being happy to be with us. Sometimes she will stand on the center with her two front feet to look out the windshield. I am teaching Martie to walk on the left side when on the leash otherwise she does quite well. Martie does not steal food, counter surf or chew anything she is not supposed to. She will take socks and personal garments from the room to the hall if left lying about, but does not chew them. She also likes to tip over waste baskets to see what’s inside and I think she would tip her food dish except it is ceramic and too heavy for her. We have had to block some open spaces under the fence and gate as she will try to sneak out to see what’s going on in the neighbourhood. She does not bolt out the door, however, she has tried to leave with whomever happens to be going out.

Martie has a charming character which makes strangers stop to pay her attention when we are out on our walks. She loves being outdoors and will go out on her own to explore the yard. She does not dig in the gardens which is a blessing. She would do best in a family with children who are past the toddler stage or with adults as she also enjoys relaxing close by.
