Eve's Story...
A family of three kittens and a young mom were reported to us a couple of months ago by several different South-of-the-Midway volunteers. One kitten was napped with an old-fashioned string and box method; two others, plus the mom, were trapped by one of our volunteers in collaboration with Jen, upon whose porch the family had landed.

The little family went to the vet, and then Mamacat Claudia went home with Jen. Eden and Eve, the two remaining kittens, went into our foster-care system. They were at the same home as the volunteer who trapped them, where they spend a lot of time with Toby, the adult foster cat.

Eden, the tabby baby, may be shy at first but is a real cuddler at heart. Her human friend Melissa writes that "she sits in my lap, purrs, and rubs against me. She likes her back scratched and even rolls on her back to have her belly rubbed."

At Mary Jean's, where they learned about the indoors and constant food supplies, although they remained very wary of their human visitors. Next they moved to Laura's house, where they had plenty of space and many human and feline visitors. They would squeeze themselves under the radiator to demonstrate their fondness for the humans, but would come out to greet the resident felines, especially their foster brother, Toby.

Eve and Eden never bit or scratched when handled...they were just terrified. But, with the patience and kindness of their human visitors, they have blossomed into sweet, friendly kittens who greet Laura when she comes home.

Eve (the black and white kitten) is the most curious and is constantly getting herself into adventures. Eden is more wary, but once she thinks it's safe, she runs and tumbles without abandon. Eden really wants to be friends with the resident cat, Simon, but he is old and grumpy and not very tolerant. But she continues to try to win him over. They both will climb in bed with Laura in the morning, purring and demanding attention. When Laura works in the living room, they are always nearby, playing or lounging in the windowsill.

Eve and Eden are inseparable sisters. Because they are a bonded pair, who love and groom each other and sleep in each others arms, they must be adopted together.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Eve, a Chicago Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Chicago, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Chicago.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Chicago already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Chicago breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Chicago paves the way for another one to be saved.
