Dirk's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, a special needs pet, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.

Dirk's Story...
Dirk is a jack russell/pointer mix. Dirk is deaf and has been trained with a vibration collar and hand signals by the dog trainer he currently lives with. Dirk does not let his deafness get him down. He is still a very, very energetic young dog. If Dirk were to live with another dog, he needs a dog that is patience with him being a very boisterous dog. He greets dogs VERY enthusiastically and possibly rudely, and he cannot hear them when they growl at him to give him warnings. He will also jump on other dogs when excited, so dogs have to be able to tolerate this excitment. Dirk is good with children and even chickens, but not cats. Dirk loves exercise to burn off his energy and enjoys going for daily walks. Dirk cannot be an off-leash dog for quite some time until he gets comfortable with his owners and is trained on how to come back without voice command. Dirk would love to live in a home that understands his special need of being a deaf dog. He needs an active home with a fenced in backyard that will give him plenty of exercise and lots of hikes and walks. If you have room in your heart for Dirk, he is waiting to meet you.

About Community Animal Welfare Society

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded in 1992 the Community Animal Welfare Society ( CAWS) is one of the oldest no-kill animal rescues in Utah. Over the last 20 years CAWS, our fosters and supporters have saved thousands of lives including over 600 last this year. As the largest foster home network in the state of Utah we focus on high risk pets in need of additional care and rehabilitation

Come Meet Our Pets...

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.

Our Adoption Process...

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.
