My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vivienne's adoption fee is $350.

Hi there! My name is Vivienne and I am a small, 5 year young, spayed, female Maltese mix. I weigh about 9 lbs, have been micro chipped, am up to date with my shots and have had my teeth cleaned. I have been through a lot in my five short years and I would like to share my story with you. Life is wonderful now, but it wasn't always that way... you see, up until three months ago, I didn't have a name. There was no one to love me, no warm bed to sleep in at night, no affection and often no food or water. I came from somewhere that my foster parents call a "puppy mill". I lived in a wire cage that was stacked on top of several other cages. I was never cared for and never allowed out of my cage. It was barely big enough for me to turn around in. Day and night, night and day, I was left in this cage. There wasn't just me either.... there were hundreds of us. I was dirty, smelly, covered in feces, scared and lonely. My spirit was broken and I could slowly feel myself losing my sanity as I circled, and circled in my cage. The only time I was ever handled was when they forced me to breed. Once I had my puppies, they would take them away very soon and I would be left alone again.... for years I endured this torture, until one day, these people, who I like to call guardian angels, came and rescued not just me, but every single one of us!

In March, I was rescued by the Humane Society. I was pregnant and very malnourished. Although I was scared, I knew that these humans were different somehow. Their hands were not there to hurt me, but to help me. They found me a loving home with a Tiny Paws foster family when my pups were about a week and a half old. All I can say is WOW!!! I never imagined that life could be this good! I was given my name and my two little babies were also given names. We were loved, snuggled, cared for, fed loads of wonderfully healthy food, taken out to play and they even found amazing loving homes for my two babies. I couldn't be happier! Now it is my turn to find my own forever loving home. Well I know my foster mom wants to say a few things about me too......

Vivienne is a lovely little dog. She is very shy, and wants to be loved. She would prefer to be on your lap, or by your side as much as she can be. She has come a long way since being rescued from the mill, but she still has some tendencies that may never go away. Vivienne circles and this is very likely what we call a form of "cage madness". She has begun to learn that she has more space to roam and that circling is not necessary, but she will still circle when she has to do her business or is under any kind of stress and at meal times. We have been working hard with her to alter this behaviour, but it will take time and understanding from a special owner. Vivienne is also not fully house trained and is learning to climb and descend stairs. Again, these are a direct result of her time spent in the puppy mill, but she can and will, gradually learn how to do these things. We have seen huge improvements already. Vivienne's ideal home would be one with someone who is experienced with dogs. She likes other dogs very much, but would also be fine as a single dog- provided her people were with her and were either retired or worked from home. Vivienne likes to curl up beside you at night and sleeps soundly- only checking a couple of times during the night (with a kiss) to make sure you are still there...

The biggest thing Vivienne requires is love. She was so badly neglected in the mill and her spirit was so broken when we received her. It was truly heartbreaking. She has been through so much and is so deserving of a wonderful, peaceful and quiet forever home. Please consider opening your home and your heart to this wonderful little girl. You won't be sorry you did.
