Ziggy's Story...
Hey mon! My name is Ziggy and I'm from Jamaica. Yah mon, the island of Jamaica. I am a very affectionate and sweet boy. I love having my whole head and face rubbed and enjoy curling up in someone’s lap to sleep. I have so much fun playing with toys, especially the snake on a stick which I love to chase! I also have a lot to talk about; my foster mom says I have a really unique and cute voice. I can’t wait to meet you and tell you every day how much I love you!

I would probably be happiest in a home without other pets but I could live with other cats as long as they don't try to dominate me. I'm not too sure about dogs but should be okay with one that is used to cats and prefers to ignore us! I get a little intimidated by lots of activity so a quiet home would make me really happy.

I was rescued by a nice couple on vacation who saw that I was sick and injured. They sent me to the doctor and were going to arrange for a nice home for me in Jamaica. But then they found out I was FIV+ and the rescue group in Jamaica didn’t think anyone would want me. So that nice couple decided to bring me home to Virginia with them and find me a good home there. In case you don't know much about FIV, I probably got it from a fight with another cat back on the beach. The disease is typically only transmitted by deep bite wounds and now that I'm neutered I don't want to fight anymore. I really need a home with someone who understands that I still have a good long life ahead of me but I will need a stress free environment, high quality food and regular vet visits.

I'm about 3 years old and had all my vaccines and am neutered. I tested negative for Feline Leukemia but positive for FIV.

Ziggy, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
